Which one?

Decon

MSI Z97 ATX LGA1150 Gaming-7 or Gigabyte GA Z79x LGA 1150 4-way SLI

For this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gMnvsY

Like 2-3 way SLI and overclocking

Also want to run linux if that affects anything

Want a good game to play?  Check out Shadowrun: http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/ (runs on literally any hardware)

That's one hell of an unbalanced build :o . You're spending more on the cooler than on the cpu itself, you put in 16gb of ram which a pentium has no way of using, and you're spending extra money on fans you can perfectly do without, plus those motherboards are overkill and you wouldn't be able to drive sli properly with a pentium. You're also way overspending on the case.

Fixed:

much, MUCH better for the money, this will destroy the original build.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

This is a built that makes sense!

Good choices. The original built is nothing but random picked parts... to speak about a 2way or even a 3way SLI GTX970s with a Pentium... what are you going to proove? How much you can bottleneck the GPUs?

forgot to mention that pentium is the cheapest stand-in I could find. Will be upgraded to a broadwell k chip asap. Chill peeps :/

But anyways your built in comparison to what Sauron posted is not as good as his proposal. And are you planning to run more than 1080p or a three monitor setup? Otherwise one GPU is good enough. Instead you could buy a GTX980 and be all set for 1080p for quite a while.

Is this built for more than gaming? Like rendering, editing?

this is built to be a setup that is relatively cheap and still kicks-ass now while still being upgradable when wanted

Still Saurons choice is better and same way upgradable, I do not see your point.

oh I see. I think you should still go for the cheaper motherboard I suggested and get an ssd, it's really one of the most significant upgrades you can get. 1000% worth it, if you want to spare some money you can go for a 120gb one but you might regret it later.
