aluminium thickness?

im going to be building a 45cm by 30cm by 30cm ish  to house a raspberry pi, fan controller, fans and hdds custom boards ect ect! what thickness of aluminium sheet will i need to create this im loooking at about 1.2mm would that be about right?

I would look for at least 1.5mm maybe thicker than that. 1.2mm is going to have a lot of flex in it.

First you should ask yourself if you have tools to cut it to the right length. 

i can cut things to the right length yeah i have aviation snips, hacksaw so on and so on!

Anywhere between 16-19 gauge will do you just fine.

the thickest i can get in my area is 1.3 mm? its £27 for a sheet where is 1.5mm is £56

you could always go thinner on the aluminum, and support it with a really thin layer of steel. sorta defeats the purpose I guess for weight, but its a compromise if you can't get 2-3mm aluminum sheets.

do you have a tig?

I would go for a thicker base then tig the rest onto that.

 

If your going to be mounting fans onto the aluminium your going to fold it so its stronger

hard drive's i would roll seems into the aluminium since you want it light but stiff then have some silicon mounts

Its all about those volumetric clouds
