CPU overclocking question

Go to solution Solved by Archangel1994,

Set the voltage to manual, put it on 1.3V then go as high as you can without bluescreening on a stress test like OCCT or aida64. When on the highest stable you can achieve, set to adaptive

ok, so i just started to overclock my G3258 and i am at 3.9Ghz. I have not changed any voltage settings yet; they are all on auto. Is this bad? My motherboard is the MSI H81M-P33. Its an h81 board, so obviously not designed to be overclocked with.

I downloaded HWinfo and the only cpu-related voltage i can see is the VID. Here's a screenshot.

Is this safe? am i doing anything wrong?

he means go high with the clock speed, not the voltage!

Btw: what is the cpu ring voltage?

Also, how hot is it safe for the cpu to get? I am using the stock intel cpu roaster, so I just want to make sure I don't get too hot.

generally its not advised to OC on stock cooler. You would want to get yourself a decent air cooler like an evo 212 which is about $35 best for the price.

Yeah, i know, but im sitting at 80C under full load running IntelBurnTest OCed to 4.5Ghz @1.220v. Gotta remember this is with a pentium G3258. its only got 2 cores. ;)

Edit: make that 1.23v. just crashed... :(

You must be living in an ice box to keep your CPU at 80c OC'd like that...

No, ambient temps are about 75ish generally(Fahrenheit). It goes down in the winter and up in the summer ofc, but the average is probably close to 75F. :)
