Whatever programs you need. CPU and GPU temp programs would be nice (such as HWMonitor as @Kloaked recommended or RealTemp and MSI Afterburner)

Get all of the proper drivers, and then install your core programs (I recommend https://www.ninite.com to do so.) And you went to the Paterson Micro Center I presume? Love that place, the prices and the sales tax are great.

Then stress test/ benchmark the living hell out of it to make sure any faulty components are brought in the warranty time... or at least that's what I do

Drivers, Malwarebytes, Avast!, 7zip, chrome

I would just like to point out that Malwarebytes is not an antivirus on its own you need another program to work in tandem as well, They even say this themselves.

Anti virus software is a waste of space.

Drivers, Steam, Game software, Chrome with Adblock (better than any anti virus), any pc monitoring software. There really isn't any set list of programs to instantly make a PC more awesome.
