GTX 980TI in sight ?

samons

So far after looking at the benchmarks and some reviews of the gtx 970/980 its not the biggest upgrade compared to 780TI accept the new technology in it..  well not enough to get me to buy it yet..

Is there a gtx 980TI on the way ? maybe someone found something i didnt but cant seem to find anything...

because the gab between the 780ti isnt big enough to the 980 ?

I think its a fair question why spend that money if you arent gettin a big enough upgrade ?

unless they design a new gpu, or make a 980 with a bigger memory bus, I don't see what else they could do to make a 980 Ti when the 980 is fully unlocked. Gtx 990 is more likely.

to bad then

because its already a full fledged CM204 core

There is nothing that can be done unless Nvidia has GM110 hidden with a bigger core but currently 980 TI is looking slim.

It's mostly like an introduction to a new technology. The power consumption, and temperatures are all very impressive. The potential is there.

Nodoby knows.

However it will be most likely depending on what AMD brings to the table with the new 300 series.

The GTX 980 is a fully enabled GM204 GPU so no there is not gonna be a 980ti soon... nvidia could launch a new GPU named GM210 with more maxwell cuda cores on board but my guess is that they will launch it as a new ''titan'' called ''Behemoth'' and it will cost upward of 1000$ and it will be the fastest GPU on earth for over 6 months...like when they launched the GK110 vanilla titan...then after 6 months they might release a cheaper GTX 980ti based on that GPU. i can't read the future but i have sources :D

The 970/980(gm204) are midranges cards, just like the GTX 680(gk104) was, they have GM200 which has more cuda cores/bigger bus etc similar to a GK110 (gtx 780 all the way to titanblack). If AMD only outperforms them by 5% don't expect GM200 coming.

they will launch this new bigger GPU as an enthousiast 1000$ product before they launch an affordable 980ti

very likely they will use a new naming scheme as well...

Wasn't my point, when AMD releases a GPU that outperforms the 980 nvidia will respond to it and bring one thats better out just like they did with the 780ti. You won't see the Titan X as 980Ti if AMD only managed to outperform the 980 by 5%. They used GK104 instead of GK110 because GK104 was enough to outperform a 7970.

If AMD's 390x outperforms the 980 by 50% orsomething then you'll see the Titan X launching as a 980Ti and lets say its 10% faster than the 390x.

The problem that Nvidia basicly has is, that they still dont have a high performance 20NM procedee in hands, like AMD has.

But i suppose they will be there soon.

I dont think that the GTX980 is ment to be a midrange card, however if you indeed look at the specs of the chip, then it could be..

And if that is the case, then it will be most likely that Nvidia will work on a new maxwell based 20nm procedee, with more cuda´s. For maybe Q4-2015 or 2016.

it does not work like that...AMD releases won't affect nvidia road map for product releases it only affect pricing.

Thats why Nvidia released the 780 Ti a week later after the 290X release that outperformed the GTX 780/Titan? Obviously all nvidia is caring about is being a leader.

for the consumer grade fully enabled flag ship, yes maybe...they wait for the right time to put it out...but they will launch Behemoth wheter AMD as something to show off or not.

They'd have to release a GM210 core, and I'd put money down that they're saving it for the 1000 series.

i think this is exactly what will happen, GM210 on i think 20nm procedee.

Late 2015 / early 2016 maybe.
