What's the budget?

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Never mind, a 750 Ti will do the job just fine probably. It runs Battlefield 4 on the ultra preset on 71 fps avg on 720p. Otherwise an R7 265 or R9 270 (recommended) will do the job

R9 265

R9 270

R9 270X

GTX 750 Ti

GTX 660

Pick any and tell why you picked that specific card.

GTX 750 Ti can handle it but it might struggle to keep 50-60 stable in crysis 3

R9 270X is a no-go. It's just an OC'd R9 270 so you would be better off getting an R9 270

R9 270 has enough power guaranteed to run everything on 1280x1024 ultra 60fps stable except the MOST demanding things like a modded to hell and back skyrim.

GTX 660 is an older card so I don't recommend it

If you do not want to replace the card for quite a while then the GTX 760 or R9 280 come to mind for me

and why don't you consider buying a 1080P monitor AND a 150$ or 200$ GPU instead? playing on such low resolution sucks to be honest...?!

You should get something like a R9 270 or R9 280 and a cheap 1080P display...

Also i think many modern games won't support 4:3 resolutions anymore and in the future most of them will not use all your (already) small monitor...

BF4 at 1280x1024 you will get toasted.

At such a low resolution it really does not matter if you can play on high or ultra you'll not even gonna see any difference anyway so i'd suggest a GTX 660 or radeon R7 260X

That's really bad...if you are any serious about your gaming experience it's not money wasted you'll see games look so much better on a 1080P flat panel it's day and night...trust me on this.

you should feel the need if you don't it's because you havnt experienced something better yet cause i know myself is seriously considering making the jump from 1080P to 1440P soon and many others as well.

that is a good suggestion but you should also consider saving some more for the R9 280 it's much faster and 3GB of VRAM.

That's a stupid card with the addition of the Nvidia 970. All you really need for 1080p is a 200 dollar card, so an r9-270 would be perfect.
