ASUS sent over their Strix GTX 970, a factory overclocked version of the GTX 970 Maxwell GPU. It lists a few pretty interesting features, like a "zero decibel" mode when playing games that don't push the GPU - but how does it compare to its competition?

I was expecting the 970 to be in closer competition with the 780, I'm actually a bit surprised.

The Overclock should been aggressive i'm sure it would even crush the 780 in every benchmark and be pretty close to the 780ti when running at 80C.

Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013).

@LinusTech @nicklmg I think there's a small error about the display outputs: Linus you mentioned that ASUS had "downgraded" the I/O ports from 3xDP, 1xHDMI and 1xDVI-I to 1xDP, 1xHDMI and 2xDVI, however I think only the 980 reference design had the "upgraded" ports, but the reference 970 has the older style ports.

Interestingly Gigabyte has chosen to implement the 980 I/O on their non-reference 970, however I think they're the only ones to do that.

Maybe it's not an issue but it kinda sounds like you were 'telling off' ASUS when that's actually how NVidia's reference design was...

I see the test bench is on an X99 platform 5930K. Wasn't the previous benches done with a different CPU, Mobo, and Ram combo with a 4.0Ghz X79 platform?

That would make the graphs unbalanced compared to other reviews and on the power consumption test.

Still wondering if I should pick up one of these to replace my 7970 for 1440p. They're verging on half a grand in Aus though so they aren't really cheap.

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

Nice card. I like how it performs and I love how it looks. Too bad the price in my country will probably be at least 100$ more than in the US.
