Tronnic's Buildlog

Tronnic

First Post - Intro

Hello community!

My name is Frank aka Tronnic and this will be my build log. I'm a guy from Germany and I do plan to waste a lot of money. I feel like I need to upgrade, but I'm really sure that it's not really necessary. I guess it's called addiction or something. I should better use the money to buy a new car, but as long as my car is still driving without falling apart I simply won't. Hehe.

First off I'd like to show you my old setup.

Parts list:

Intel Core i7 2600k @ 4,4GHz CPU

Asus P8Z68V Motherboard

16GB Corsair Vengeance LP Black RAM

Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X OC GPU

120GB Corsair Force3 SSD

1 / 2 TB Western Digital Green HDDs

Corsair H100 CPU Cooler

Logitech G19 Keyboard

Logitech G600 Mouse

Logitech G13 Keypad

3 x 27" Samsung Syncmaster Screens + 23" Siemens Screen

etc.

Picture of my old setup:

%40PC_NEU.png

The R9 290X and RAM will be the only parts reused in the new setup because I just bought them recently.

This is the stuff I'm going to throw my money on. I will order everything within 2 days. Right after I get my pay check.

And yea, that's it for now. Stay tuned for more. Will try to make photos of the whole process and of course of my finished work.

I'm also open to any suggestions I can get before I order anything. Maybe you know some better parts then the one I have chosen. I am still not 100% sure if I should go with that monitor combo, or should just grab an 4k monitor. But after seeing Linus video about that monitor, I feel like I should get that instead of a 4k.

Cheers,

Tronnic. ;)

Update #1

Some packages arrived today. Sadly not everything.

Those are missing:

Corsair AF120 Fan

2 Wallmounts for my Monitors

25" LG

The Corsair Air 540 Case :(

Sadly the case and wall mounts for my monitors aren't here yet.

Scary thing is that the expensive monitor had no packaging. Just his box. I hope it's not damaged. I can't really begin now. But I will try out my components and see if they are running. Have the perfect benching table for that (motherboard box). Haha :)

Update #2

The case and other parts finally arrived. Time to build the PC.

Here are 2 more:

Will post more pictures tomorrow. Still need to mount the monitors on the wall, do cablemanagement behind my desk etc etc. A lot of work to do till I'm complete. :)

Cheers,

Tronnic.

Update #3

Update #5

Some valley benchmarks :) Pretty happy with my scores

Finally got over 5k points! \o/

Too bad I wasn't able to get an higher CPU overclock. But didn't try that long. Didn't want to go higher then 1,27V

i7 4790k @ 4,5GHz

R9 290X CF @ 1150/1450

Avg. FPS 122,3

Score 5116

Extreme HD

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/69448-unigine-valley-benchmark-scores-thread-over-200-submissions/page-75#entry3176723

Solid Nr. 20 on the valley ranking: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlC81MjwelBgdDdfZGdPbERhYi1YYjhXZVREX1ZtUFE#gid=0

Another small benchmark with stock CPU clocks and undervolted stock GPU (My daily driver). It's 4597 (10% less then OC).

And here with my default resolution of 3440x1440:

2 x 290X = almost 600 Watts TDP. 860 Watt PSU is cutting it a little close imo. RM1000 is about the same price as AX860.

Yea that was EVE.

2 x 290X = almost 600 Watts TDP. 860 Watt PSU is cutting it a little close imo. RM1000 is about the same price as AX860.

I searched the web and I thought a 860W PSU is more then enough. My system should pull about 650-700W under full load. It seemed to me that 650-700W would be a very sweet and efficient spot for a 860W PSU.

But I just saw that the RM1000 has the same efficiency at the same price. Should I pick that on instead then?

Alright, all parts are ordered. Only thing I changed is the 860W PSU to the 1000W RM1000 from Corsair.

But got an reply that it could take till Saturday or even next week because not all parts were on stock. :-/

One question. How should I arrange my fans when I begin building it.

There will be 3x Corsair AF120 in the front, 1x AF140 in the back and 2x SP140 in the top.

I heard it's a good idea to have positive pressure in the case to have less dust.

At first I thought the three front fans will be intake and the two top and back fans will be outtakes. That made the most sense for me at first. But I guess that will create a negative pressure in the case.

Should I go front and top intake and only the one 140 fan at the back as outtake?

Hi, it will take a few days more till I can post new pictures. Got all parts now but my secondary monitor is broken and I need to send it back :(

Want to wait before I take the final shots, hehe.

I also just wasted 6 hours of my life to do cable management under my desk. :P
