Best sub $200 CPU

Still in production is my friend's orange rig. We have most everything else, we just need a cpu and a motherboard. I can figure out the motherboard. We're trying to figure out which cpu would be best.

We are trying as hard as possible to keep it as low under 200 as possible.

$200 IS THE ABSOLUTE CELING.

With that said, we had the fx-8320 or the fx-6300/6350 in mind.

Overclocking may be a possibility but NOT a necessity.

This pc will be used for gaming, school work, and video editing.

CPU: AMD FX 8320e | Mobo: Gigabyte GA‑78LMT‑USB3 | Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper n520 | RAM: 8Gb @ 1333MHz

8350, but you will also need a more expensive cooler to cool it, as well as a higher end board that can handle the power it requires.... So, something like a 4690k or even a Xeon 1231v3 would ultmaitely be similar in cost. For gaming the 4690k, is the best of the three, but for editing the Xeon and 8350 have a bit of an edge as editing programs can take advantage of the more than 4 cores.

You can find an i5 4690 for like $190 right now. It's not the K series, but it's still great. Better for gaming than the AMD chip, and you can pair it with an H97 chipset board easily. However if you want productivity, the FX-8320 is amazing price per dollar right now. Its just not ideal for gaming as its single core performance is sub-par.

break that ceiling to get a 4690k for an extra 30 dollars and you will not have the best gaming cpu at a budget but just the best gaming cpu. The 8350 is the sub 200 choice though.

If you live close to a MicroCenter store in the US, the 4690k is $200. They also have the AMD 9370 black edition for the same price.

Either processor is a good choice. Good luck!!

You're opening up a whole can of worms with this question lol

The 9370 isn't such a great option considering how much you have to pay to find a board that can support it, and a cooler that can cool it.

The 8320 will probably be your best bang for the buck for that price.

For gaming FX 6300, $109 CPU!!! And it has the same gaming performance than the 8350, it's only advantage is the clock speed and an overclock to 4GhZ is super easy!

More and more games are using more cores, and if the game is old, well then it probably isn't as demanding anyway. The 8320 shouldn't be a bottleneck for a while.

Show me a new one where the extra 2 cores give an advantage... It's always a super small difference between the 2 and it is because of clockspeed, you can see it with the 8320, they get the absolute same results.
