Intel Stock Cooler 4790k

sew999

Title says it all. I'm (still) waiting to get my 4790k but I won't have enough money to get a proper cooler. There will be no overclocking but I will have heavy loads/gaming. How good is the Intel Stock cooler on the 4790k?  i7-4790K stock cooler is unsafe? I doubt I'll be overclocking for awhile so was just wondering how well it'd be.

It's speed is 4ghz then turbos to 4.4. Is the stock cooler decent enough?

The Intel Stock Cooler for no overclocking is generally fine. You shouldn't have any problems.

Even with stock cooler you might run into a very very hot cpu while heavy loading the CPU. I can't remember where I saw the chart but the temps went up to 90+ While under full load, with stock cooler.

stock coolers are designed to work in ATX specification cases, at standard speed, at normal roomtemperature

It will be fine

Just save for a relatively cheap cooler. I have the DeepCool GammaXX 300 and it performs really well, and I bought it for €18/$20. It's really worth buying a cooler, they're silent and keep your CPU nice and cool.

Edit: If you really don't have any money to spare you're fine, but remember that the stock cooler is quite loud and will gather a lot of dust.

yes it will be... intel suplies the cooler guaranteeing that it will keep your cpu from overheating on stock clocks, in a case with atleast some airflow

Last quesion now i have.

Are there any differences between dimensions of stock cooler  3770K and stock cooler 4790k?  I ask because i have tiny case: Cooler master centurion 590.

Now i have 3770K with stock cooler and of course it fit easily on that case. So thats why i am asking. So 4790k with cooler will fit easy too?

In gaming, yes. In rendering however it's decently faster.

OT: Intel would not include that cooler if it wasn't safe. That goes without saying. No need to worry about it.

I used the stock cooler with a 4.3GHz overclock on my 4570k, just make sure to have airflow through the case.

no, clock for clock, in rendering especially, it will be 10% faster. and only slightly faster due to higher clock speed

for the processor it is far from fine mine throttled with no oc to 3.3 because it got above 100c so don't overclock but if you are not rendering it will be fine

Yes, you should be fine. Gaming load is hardly going to be full CPU load with that processor. And at stock speeds, that cooler will always be just fine.

In rendering, a 5.0ghz 3570k scores lower than a 4690k @4.7ghz. More details on the cinebench r15 doc.

Also, jayztwocents compared a real usage video rendering and showed ~20 minutes difference iirc between 3770k and 4790k.
