Good Pc RTS Games?

LuckyCharm

I am looking to play some RTS games on PC. Iv'e played Halo Wars on Xbox and really liked it. Are there any that have a good multiplayer? Iv'e already played Starcraft so you don't need to mention that.

They made a Halo themed RTS game for Xbox 360. Civ 5 is not an rts and the multiplayer is brutally slow. Do you now of any RTS with a good multiplayer?

1. Civ 5 is not RTS, it's TBS (turn based strategy)

2. Age of empires 1 and 2 are amazing, if nearly 15 years old. Age of mythology is a decade old, but also good. Age of empires three is pretty good but still quite old.

3. the RTS scene has been kinda meh for the past 5 years.

... not an RTS (at least in the tradition sense) it's a MOBA.

Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War.

An oldie but a goodie. Not really well-known but I enjoy it immensely. I believe it's now free online, you can find it with a US Air Force ad on launch but it's totally free other than that.

What makes Rise & Fall unique is that it follows the hero style of Age of Empires 3, with similar base building, but it features large armies from something more akin to Total War. But mainly, the lead innovation is that you can drop at any time from a commander perspective into a third person view of your hero, and control them directly, using battle cries to lead the army while staying in that perspective. It's a lot of fun.

Also features capturing alternate bases with creep enemies similar to Warcraft 3, and it features naval battle with docking and ramming akin to Total War, specifically Shogun 2. Oh, and ships are actually just platforms on the water. You have to build units and walk them onto the ship, and they fight of their own accord while the ship moves. If you board an enemy ship and kill all their units, instead of killing the ship it becomes yours. Pretty fun stuff.

Starcraft 2?? lol

AOE 2,3

Age of Mythology 3

Command + Conquer, Red Alert.

I'd say COH 1, not 2.

Empire total war

Sins of Solar empire

World in conflict

Warhammer 40k, dawn of war

WARCRAFT 3

Supreme Commander

Men of War/Faces of War, especially with community mods. Everything else I can think of has already been posted. While it's not a RTS in traditional sense, I would give Banished a try if you catch it on sale. There are few star trek mods for Sins of a Solar empire that can eat up a lot of free time.

This is LTT. One cannot force "style over substance" values & agenda on people that actually aren't afraid to pop the lid off their electronic devices, which happens to be the most common denominator of this community. Rather than take shots at this community in every post, why not seek out like-minded individuals elsewhere?

Rise of Nations has the most difficult AI I've seen... If you're up for a challenge, try looking for that... It's way old though...

Also command and conquer series of games...

Do you now of any RTS with a good multiplayer?

I know you've mentioned Starcraft 2, that's the big one for online multiplayer. Be warned, it's not casual friendly, it's extremely stressful to play, it's isolating and there's no difficulty cap regarding opponents. They'll just keep getting harder and harder. Also, it's been known to cause anxiety attacks, and the community is toxic as shit... The single player however, is very good

Warcraft III is fun to play with friends, and it basically has the best single player experience... ever... Like seriously, play the hell out of it.

Dawn of War is a good one to look into, based on the Warhammer 40k franchise. Me personally, I found unit control to be better in DoWII but for every person who agrees with me there'll be one or two people who disagree. Company of Heroes plays similarly to DoWII, so I'd give that a whirl as well.

Age of Empires 2, and Age of Mythology. If we wanna bring up oldschool RTS games there's always Total Annihilation. I find it's spiritual successor, Supreme Commander, hard to recommend. Single player is ok, but the multiplayer just takes too god damn long to play.

Command and Conquer is another good series. You've got three main sub-series in the franchise, General's C&C, C&C: Red Alert, and then you've got my personal favourite, the Tiberium series. Fun fact, C&C is a spiritual successer of a game called Dune 2, set in well, that universe, and it's basically considered to be the first RTS game.

Supcom: Forged Alliance is a damn good one, though you have to go through the community-made lobby, which is actually pretty good now.

the community is fairly small, you'll rarely if ever see more than I think 700 players on, depending on where you live, but it is very active and there are always a few available games for all skill levels.

to the game itself, a game can go anywhere from 5 minutes to well over an hour in game (2-3 hours real-time if someone has a crap PC). the first 2/3 minutes can be slow especially for noobs, but once you're proficient then action is intense. also, FULL STRATEGIC VIEW. you can scroll right out and see the entire map instead of relying on a mini-map, though you can use one if you want.
there are a lot of different levels to the game, and truly deserves the real time STRATEGY label. check it out :)

First SpellForce with add-ons is pretty good. It's a mix of RPG and RTS, where you have heroes to control and you can build armies of elves, orcs and other fantasy races. Pretty nice game. SpellForce 2 isn't so good.
