How to avoid Steam game reinstalls

Guest

OK, quick rundown of problem. Catalyst 14.4s which I've been using fine since I got my R9 290 in July are suddenly doing "Display driver has stopped working and has been recovered." But it doesn't always recover and I have to reboot. Seriously pissing me off and my only option now is a rebuild.

So, I have installed a load of Steam games on my 2TB D drive and I wondered if there is a folder or a file I can backup before I wipe which will make the games work if I copy it back after Steam is reinstalled following the rebuild?

Steamapps folder holds all your games.

Back that up to another place.

Reinstall steam, move your games back from steamapps you backed up, to steamapps in the steam folder (which you may have to re-create)

Then proceed to install the games again, it will find the existing files, and then do a repair/instant finish.

Like you would with Origin.

Youtube "How to backup steam games" and it should also have multiple methods.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

if your like me and your steamapps folder is on a seperate drive from your os, then once you get steam reinstalled simple "install" a game but make a new steam library where the old one was. will pick up all the installed games there right away
