FX-8350 overclocking help

Hi!, im "new" to pc gaming (i played on scrappy laptop for a while), and i want some help on overclocking my FX-8350.

I used amd overdrive to overclock it from 4.0GHz to 4.1GHz , tested it and it was stable (i've been using it for weeks and it has had no problems either), but when i push it to 4.2GHz and test it (1Hr test) it says it's unstable, have i reached the limit on my CPU or can i push it to 4.3GHz and it might be stable.

Thank you in Advance!

Another factor may be your motherboard.  A bad overclocking mobo will not be able to deliver adequate power above stock speeds...  Or you did bad in the silicon lottery.  Are you increasing the voltage at all?

overclocking from 4 to 4.2/4.3ghz is a waste of time IMO, there is not a big difference

welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forums!

build specs would be nice to know.

are you trying to overclock on the stock air cooler of the 8350?

what level adjustments have you made to get 4.1 and 4.2GHz?

Dont use overdrive for overclocking.

BUt overclock directly from the bios.

You could overclock on 2 diffrent methods, using multiplier or Northbridge overclocking.

Which mobo do you have?

Northbridge overclocking:

Multiplier overclocking:
