Gpu not hitting 100% tdp?

hey guys,

every now and then i get into an overclocking mood, and since i only have a 3770 for the cpu, i cant use the multiplier on it so im stuck at around 4.1 ghz with that no matter what i do (excluding bus clock overclocking, which messes up other parts of the pc), i divert efforts towards the 2 gtx 760's, and considering they are the evga acx super clocked ones (very nice name xD) one would assume they would be awesome for ocing.

this is where the problems start. cuzz every time i try going over +50 on the core (1250mhz effective) it poops out on me before even hitting 80% power draw in gpuz. since i have lifted it to 115% in afterurner, and my psu should be able to handle (cx750m/ 750w). it is a little better in single card more, and the gpu hits a higher tdp before crashing (around 90%), but when i see other reviews with the exact same card running at like 1300 mhz, and it using 105% tdp, it sort of baffles me why mine are not as good...

i would understand if it used all the available power but wasent able to reach the clocks, but it crashes well before it reaches 100% power draw, so im a bit confus, to say the least...

ive used nvflash, and the kepler bios tweaker, to edit the fan table (which made it much quiter), and the max volts to like 1.25v (verified considering it was running much hotter), but it still crashes with the slightest of overclocks

any help would be welcomed, and you can post any beastly 760 overclocks if you want xD

top one hovers around 85C, and the bottom one dosent even hit 80C... they shoudnt be throttling cuzz i increased the limit to 90C in afterburner...

I did some research on this. A lot of places say most 760s tend to sit at around 1100 on core and 1700 mem with only very good cards managing to hit 1250 or 1300. Personally i would adjust your fan curve, 85C is too high (for me). My 780 is set 83c for the temp limit, despite the fact i have never seen it go above 69c.

Few questions;

Reference cards, aftermarket or water cooled?

Did you try overclocking on stock voltage and stock bios?

Also, bare in mind - a 700 watt psu is recommended for GTX 760 sli. That only gives you 50 watts to work with.

I recently changed the thermal paste on the core as well, and that made quite a significant change to the temps, to a point where even after 20 mins of unigen it hovers around 76C, with the bottom one not even hitting 70C.

It is the evga acx sc version with a "non reference" pcb, but in reality they just made it longer and said it was non reference, because even the power connector is where it would be on the stock 760.

I have tried overvolting using kepler bios tweaker, and nvflash, and it dosent really help much other than massively raising the temps, because it still crashes at the same clocks...
