Quick Question

Lays

I won't be watercooling for awhile and my cousin could use my 212 evo in his build, so I've been thinking about getting a better cooler for temporary use.  It'll probably get re-sold when I do my custom loop. I want the cooler to be better than my 212 evo pls

I don't have very much room around the CPU socket and I'd like to keep my SP120 QE's in push pull on whatever cooler I get, what options do I have? I'd like black if possible.

Right now the 212 evo isn't tall enough for the fans to clear the ram, so if I do get something bigger it'll have to be taller so that it fits over the dominator platinums, (which I don't think any air coolers do but i'm not sure)

Here's how much space I have, also the case is an R4

I think the Be Quiet Dark/Shadow Rock 2 goes on sale often at NCIXUS.com for around 25-30

Why not revert to the stock cooler until you get your custom loop?

it fits on the 212 right now, but what I meant is if the 212 was "thicker" then the fan would hit the ram, then if I moved the fan "up" it would have like 1/4 of the fan not pushing air through the fins

I want better cooling performance until I get the custom loop, I like running my fans at 5v and the 212 evo struggles sometimes when I start overclocking

What do you consider 'cheap'?

Yes, and also I checked and the U14S has the same cost as the U12S while also maintaining the memory clearance.

I updated my original post with links.

Have you considered the NHC14?

Or you could go with something like an H80I/H100I

What kind of reviews are you looking at?   http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Noctua/NH-U12S/6.html

If you're going for quiet, I'd suggest sticking with air.

This is what I was looking at, I only looked at one review on google I didn't explore much afterwards:

I had an h100i like.. 8 months or so ago and I don't remember it being audible in terms of pump noise, I'll look and see if amazon has the u12s. (Have amazon prime for a month so I figure I should use it)

I can use my SP120's on it right?

Is there anything bigger & better? I'm willing to spend the $, just figured I'd ask, I'm not entirely sure how long I'll be using it but it may be for a few months.

I know my 4790k can do 5ghz, and I'm not entirely sure if I'll be able to hit 5 with a smaller cooler. ( Already booted at 5ghz with my 212 evo, but temps were wayyy to high for that)

Is there anything similar to the NH-D15 that has support for 120mm fans with memory clearance?

I'd buy an NH-D15 but I want to continue using my fans since they match everything

The u12s is a smaller cooler but has a denser fin array than the 212 Evo. What were your load temps with the 212 Evo?

When gaming ~60c at 4.4 ghz 1.18volts with the fans at 5 volts, when I was benching 4.8 ghz @ 1.325v it was hitting 80c with the fans at 12v

I just want something beefy enough to withstand a stability test/benchmark without hitting 80+ @ 1.4v

You'd probably need to go liquid if you want to hit 5ghz and stay under 80c while using the SP120's.

That or you'd need to delid.

Can't you just get a U14s and use stock fans until you get your loop going, I know you're not a fan of noctua fans but it'll only be temporary right?
