Korean moniters, is it worth the 'risk'?

SMEXYBeach

So as soon a I saw Linus' video with the 29um65 from LG I was sold, with a GTX 760 I cant run everything max at the full resolution but at medium, then with demanding games i can just run the 1080p resolution with black bars.

The only problem is the LG is the best part of £300 and the new Korean monitors have just been released for under £200. It would mostly be used for gaming and the Korean monitor runs an LG panel so it looks like its saving over £100 for a very similar monitor that is just imported and not from an official retailer.

This all seems too good to be true, don't you think?

You'd have a much harder time powering a 1440p panel with that 760.

So, yes, the resolution would be better, but you'd have to play at a lower setting, so...kind of defeats the purpose, no?

It really depends what games, hogs like watchdogs and crysis obviously not, but with something like Payday 2 or skyrim it wouldn't be much of a problem, especially considering that its only 30% harder to run than a 1080p screen. Either way, since in using a 22 inch moniter now, even with black bars at 1080p it would be an upgrade

Did you guys even read what he wrote?

From what ive read there is a risk cause warranty is not really guaranteed but you most probably wont have any issues with it

Yup. I don't see the point if you're not really going to fully utilize the resolution.

Korean monitors can also have dead pixels, you have to watch what their warranty actually covers.

They have significant input lag over most of the models.

They usually have very poor stands, so if you value any kind of adjustments, go with a higher quality monitor.

They're panels that have been rejected by LG. That bothers me. I sort of view them on parity with refurbished units. So, if you can find those eve cheaper, or the same price with a better stand..

You see i was worried with the monitor having a rubbish warranty and generally being a bit dodgy but Tek Syndicate did some videos on them and they seemed to like them and more importantly, not have any issues or are they just 'special' customers?
