If you want sheer speed with no motion blur and like 24" screens.

Then go with 144hz.

the first time using a 144hz monitor I had a far bigger "woah" experience than when I saw a 1440p monitor

144hz if your card can handle it; it's extra smooth gameplay for something like CSGO.

 

But 1440p is nice when you play more realistic games such as Arma 3, where view distance is huge and you need every available extra pixel to determine whether that dot on the horizon is a bush or a helmet.

I really doubt 2560x1440 will become more popular than it is now. 4k will become cheaper and more popular in monitors in much less time than 1440 has been around mainly because of the whole media standard, so more panels will be made, thus cheaper. (A lot of 4k monitors are cheaper than 2560x1600 ones even now)
