Be quiet! Dark Rock pro 3 or Dark Rock 3?

COSMO_D_
Go to solution Solved by zocki5,

Thank you all  :)

Im Probably gonna get the Dark rock pro 3 but I have 4 sticks of ram.

would I have to take some ram out to fit the cooler in?

The ram is standard size.

Hey there, COSMO_D! ;)

I got a Dark Rock Pro 3 myself to go with my i7-4930k (LGA 2011) and I can fit about 43mm-high Kingston HyperX Beast RAM in all the slots, except the ones nearest to the socket (the metal part of the cooler overhangs it); all the ones located under the fans are good to go, because you can adjust the height of the fans! Which motherboard do you use? The arrangement of the slots and how many there are would be useful to know. :)

I hope we´ll be able to help you decide which cooler to get!

Etienne

First of all would the Dark rock pro 3 fit in my case? My Case= Zalman 11 Plus              http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=476

If Yes then is the extra performance worth the extra noise you get from 2 fans instead of one?

My Pc sits on top of my desk Right next to me and the amd 8350 stock cooler drives me crazy! Plus I have to disable half of the bloody cores and underclock it to not fricking over heat!

Price doesn't matter to me  ;)

Doing some research, the Zalman Z11 Plus can handle cpu coolers up to 165mm tall, so the Dark Rock Pro 3 with 163mm would fit just fine.

Also by using more fans, they can spin slower and therefore create less noise compared to a single faster spinning fan. ;)

helped building up the CPU Overclocking Database and GPU Overclocking Database, check them out ;)

@COSMO_D_ Welcome to the forum! :)

Yeah, stock coolers suck...

I believe that both coolers would fit, but I'm not sure about the Pro 3.

You should get the Dark Rock 3, I mean, it will just destroy the stock cooler, both when it comes to noise and performance - I have a Dark Rock 3 and I can't hear it, unless I turn the fan to the maximum, and then there's just some air noise. With the Dark Rock 3 you'll not only be able to overclock your CPU a bit, but you're obviously going to be able to use all them cores!!! :D And all of that, with way lower temperatures than you've had before :)

Does that 163mm also include it sitting on the socket? I'm sure the socket itself is at least 2mm tall.

I assume that cpu cooler makers include the socket height into their measurements.

Also the side panel of the Z11 Plus is slighty bulged out, so you really should be fine

There's nothing in the case that will get in the way. It's the ram on your m/bd that is the worry. The Pro is *wide*. Even the 3 will go over the first ram slot on most boards but you can relocate the fan on the other side if you have to. Also check to see if you have a secondary cpu fan pin on your m/bd. It would make your life easier if you did and went with the Pro.

Hello Dimwitted! :)

I just wanted to let you know, that the Dark Rock Pro 3 (I got one myself :D ) doesn´t need two CPU fanheaders on the motherboard, because the fans are already connected by a Y-splitter=> You just need a secondary header if you want to install a third fan (like I did...)

Just to let you know...(absolutely no criticism ;) )

But anyways!

Have a wounderful day!!! (or evening,morning,night,whatever...I don´t know... )

Thanks Etienne. I have the Dark Rock 3 and thought that the fans were separate on the Pro. Learn something new every day!

Cosmo, the big thing is the fans and the Silent Wings are an excellent fan. They're built just like the Noctuas but look better! :)

AS long as you have the LP's you're doing great. I have Corsair Dom Plats which are humungous bastards so that colours my advice. :)
