EVGA may not allow stepping up from 7xx cards

aduman

Hi everyone, I've heard EVGA may not let us step up from 7xx cards to maxwells because of the cards being discontinued. Do you have any info about this? Because if this is true, I'm going to hang myself by my dick.

Maybe I misread that. What do you mean by "step up"? I thought you meant they aren't making 900 series cards.

Well an example they gave in the Terms of Service is 480 to 580 so I don't see why same same wouldn't apply to say a 780 to a 980

How did you reach that conclusion man... That takes some effort lol. :D

We may not be able to participate in the step up program with our 7xx GPUs.

You can step up from the GTX770 I believe.

I didn´t ask for that because all I was interested was the full GK110 chip. But you never know maybe EVGA looks at this and qualifies the GTX780Ti owners. I mean for me it´s too late for that now. I have sold both cards.

But then again I tested the GTX780Ti 2way SLI against the GTX980 2way SLI. If it´s just in terms of performance for you, don´t worry these cards are with heavy OCs exactly in the same range. I will be trying to push the GTX980s towards 1600MHz when I have the water blocks for them, but this is more for my own curiosity than necessary :)  .

The 480 to 580 was different. Because the 580 was the direct successor of the 480. The GTX980 is the successor of GK104 not GK110.

Ah. I get it. I never owned an EVGA card and never heard of it, but from what I know, they should allow it, just like SlaughterSmurf said.

Like you I prefer to be on the far edge of new tech. :) I can just sell them but Step Up would be more hassle-free imo.

EDIT: I think I'm just going to sell them lol, they still sell for pretty good numbers here in EU.

That is very true and being on the bleeding edge of technology is actually something that I really enjoy even though it is sometimes problem related :) .

Look into the Valley Benchmark. You will find my results and conclusion of the new GM204 GTX980.

EDIT: Without OCs the GTX780Ti was quite a notch faster than the GTX980. But you can OC these GM204s like crazy and these cards scales very good with the clock speed.

I've looked at the benchmark but I'm not familiar with Valley unfortunately. Thanks for the effort though. :)

Your 780Tis were underwater I believe and with a 9x120mm rad setup they clearly have the advantage like you stated on your post in valley thread. Imagine what 980s would do when they are added to your loop man... :)

Yeah that´s the 780, but then the 780Ti should possible as well.

The issue what I see here is in the fee you pay for stepping up. Because the aduman has an EVGA GTX780Ti classified... good question. This card is more expensive than the GTX980.

No prob. I think StepUp is only in the US, maybe get a friend /relative to help? Also, why would your ti be excluded?

Well in that case, I guess he has to find somebody that lives in the US then :D .

EDIT: Wait a minute... I am not sure, if I would want to make use of the Step-Up with 780Ti classifieds... you can sell them probably for a good price... I don´t know. I paid 440 € a piece for a GTX980... so I am kinda out of the whole price equation.

While we're on the subject, is there any way I can step up if I bought the 780 on 6/15/14?

It says im not eligible before 6/21, but I sent a message in support anyway, to see if someone there is nice enough to do that :P

But it says Im not eligible because my warranty is a limited 90 day warranty, and i only registered today (has to be under 14 days), so I was wondering if i buy the extended warranty after this one expires and I can step up...

Oh and also, when registering, i put in the wrong date... (i put the 23rd by accident), So i know its the warranty thats the only complaint there...
