How to get digital audio signal from console to PC.

What I want to do is have the optical audio signal from my console go into my PC so that I can use my PC headphones and get both console audio and PC audio.

I'm guessing that I'll need some sort of adapter or converter, but I wouldn't know quite what to look for.

If possible, is there a way to separately control the volume of the console sound in case it's too loud or too quiet.

I also don't know if it will affect the quality of the audio at all. Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks.

Edit: I want to be able to listen to PC and console audio at the same time.

You might want to get a mixer...

Or you can use the Line-in of your PC...

Edit: I didn't see digital audio earlier... Not sure if there are mixers which will take digital inputs...

There are. I don't know too much about mixer products like that, but I know Astro makes a mixamp that takes 3.5mm jacks and optical/digital in (just don't buy the Astro mixamp because it's a POS for what it is).

@JaredB

I've had this for 5 years now and its still going strong

I have my the line out from the selector going into my headset, Line 1 from my PC, and Line 2 from my console

If I want to use my headset for PC audio, I turn the dial to 1, and when I play PC games, I turn it to 2. Really nice and easy, didn't cost too much either. Course you can't listen to both PC audio and console audio at the same time; not sure if thats a requirement.
