First Build - Gaming/Video Editing PC

Guest

Hey all,

So recently after burning through a laptop and only getting 20 frames a second on ArmA III on my other laptop, I've decided to build my own PC. However, since I barely know anything on parts, combinations and performance I have decided to come to you and ask for your advice :)

So, to get the specifics out of the way:

 - A budget of $1000 to $1400 AUS. However, I am willing to consider going above this by $100-200 if necessary.

 - Parts have to be available within Australia online or without bullshit shipping fees. I don't want to spend half my budget on shipping costs.

 - The PC is going to be used for 1080p medium to very high gaming (such as ArmA, Battlefield, Crysis, etc) with 1-2 screens. Plans to upgrade to 3 screens later on are being considered.

 - The PC will also occasionally edit and render videos. Not many, and it doesn't have to be quick either.

 - OS needs to be purchased. Win 7 or Win 8.1.

 - Screens also need to be purchased.

 - Keyboard needs to be purchased. Other peripherals will come later (already have headset + mouse)

 - I would like to overclock, but am not experienced so it can be avoided.

 - Case/MOBO should be Micro ATX/ ATX. Don't really care about the design but would prefer minimalist/clean style and decent cooling options.

 - I am not currently interested in SLI/Crossfire, but it would be nice to upgrade to it later on.

 - I live in the desert! My house is poorly cooled/insulated, so I have no idea how that will effect the PC during summer.

Currently, I have selected a few parts that I think may be suited for this build. However, I am nowhere close to fully understanding how each part interacts with each other and how well these parts will perform. These parts are:

- Intel i5 4690K or i7 4790K

- Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 or 780

- Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB SSD

- Western Digital WD Black 1TB WD1003FZEX

- Logitech G150s Gaming Keyboard

As you can see, I have yet to select MOBO, Case, cooling options, PCU, etc. I really have a very small amount of experience within this area so any help is greatly appreciated. As a side note, I am currently looking at only PC Case Gear for the parts, but any suggestions for other reputable sites would be quite helpful.

Cheers.

I really like most of the choices here, however, I would prefer an Nvidia card due to the shadowplay features, along with just personal preference. Any suggestions/advice on this?

honestly you could do it but you would have to give up over clocking if that's ok with you, on a budget like this and the prices that aus charges for nvidia cards its not worth it in my opinion

Why the restriction on overclocking? and yeah Australian Nvidia cards do seem fairly expensive.

Also, what should I do for a PCU, or is it in the list and I just can't see it?

Ah I see. Update however, I have recalculated the budget and if I wait I should probably get a better rig during the christmas season. So I think I'm going to hold off until then. Thanks for your help though :D
