Recommendation for CPU and Graphics Card for my motherboard

Currently the motherboard I'm using is an Asus P5N-D; it's around 5 years old; it has a LGA 775 socket; SATA 2 native support, 2x PCIe 2.0 x 16 slots for two-way SLI (supported by Nvidia 750i chipset) and maybe just to throw in there, it supports up to 8GB DDRAM2.

What would be your recommendation for the best CPU and graphics card for this motherboard; I want to ensure that I will be getting the best performance for this modern generation of PC games w/o any or very little bottle necking.

PS: I was thinking of the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 do you think its worth it or will it lead to severe bottle necking.

Whats your budget?

Its probably not worth it to upgrade cpu as it is pretty outdated.

You should probably just upgrade you whole set up. No matter what you get for lga 775 it is still going to be to out dated. Sorry.

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

I would say budget wouldn't be a concern it's more about getting the best performance w/little to no bottle necking.

Looking at the Amazon price for the CPU you're looking at, it would probably be cheaper to get a new setup.

As for actually recommending parts, provided you have a better price for the CPU, I can't really say much. I know very little about bottlenecking and Intel hardware from that far back.

$700+ for a 5+ year old QX9770?! If you can find it used for under $100...possibly.

You will see bottlenecking on your system -- if you so desire to keep this LGA 775 platform.

The CPU -- regardless of what LGA 775 CPU you get -- will hold you back. The several-generations-later successors of the Core2 series...huge performance improvements.

Better to just jump on the new LGA 1150 socket....

$700 can get you the latest Core i5, a very decent Z97 motherboard, 8GB of DDR3 RAM. You can even throw in a mid-range graphics card, new case, and/or a SSD.

You could save a little bit her and there, and do some changes but...

Intel Core i5-4690K -- $228.99

Gigabyte GA-Z79X Gaming 5 motherboard --- 139.99

G.Skill RipJawsX DDR3 1866MHz 1.5V RAM --- $83.55

Sapphire Radeon R9-270X 2GB GDDR5 graphics card -- $209.88

Subtotal: ~$662.51 Canadian

EDIT: Looking at your profile...that's all you really need.

You can reuse the Antec case, HDD, Corsair TX750, etc.

If you want a new case as well, have a look at the Phanteks Enthoo Pro : http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/phanteks-case-phes614pbk

You can definitely sell some of your existing parts to get some decent money back.
