850 pro is more reliable but not worth the extra money IMO. The 840 EVO is more than good enough

PRO for professional, probably just a bit of marketing gimmick and better reliability for people who can't have them fail.

850pro is complete overkill for daily use. And its really not that much better. Unless your'e doing some heavy IO, you're not gonna notice the difference.

The main differenece between EVO 840 and 850Pro is the drive lifespan

The Samsung SSD 850 PRO comes with a whopping 10 year warranty and is designed to write up to 40GB per day

The Samsung SSD EVO 840  comes with a  5 year warranty and is designed also to write up to 40GB per day

There is noth much difference more, than a lifespan.... and allowed amount of writes to the flash memory

The 850 PRO can write 150 Terabytes over its entire life, more than doubling the 73 Terabytes quoted for the 840 PRO. And Samsung has backed this up with a whopping 10-year limited warranty, based on a 40GB daily write workload (0.04TB x 365 days x 10 years = 150 TBW – Tera Bytes Written).

So the Evo 840 has 73 TBW   and 850Pro has 150 TBW

between EVO 840  & 850 pro I personaly plan to buy 850 Pro next month... because its gonna last longer than 840. it has exactly 2 times more  lifespan than evo840 without avoiding the warranty

For detailed review about 850 pro link is here:

If u want the world most relyable SSD then go with the 850 Pro...  if u don't write alot to your SSD then Evo 840 is more than enough.

Actually EVO is on the no-buy list, because it has issues.

Also it only has 3 year warranty, not 5.

About lifespan (endurance). The numbers manufacturer provide is only for warranty purposes. 850pro wont die once you write more than 150TB on it. It will last way way longer than that. Same for evo.

Seening how 850PRO uses a very new technology (3d nand) i wouldnt neceserrly call it more reliable. If its more expensive, it doesnt make it more reliable.

I would personally go with a larger ssd instead of a smaller, faster one. They are all pretty fast anyway and unless you're doing some heavy IO, you wont notice the difference.

Also, what makes you think, that ur m4 is near death ? Do you have latest firmware ?

Because it has 2048 Retired blocks...
The firmware is latest 070H

I just want to replace it with a new SSD Drive .. to avoid performance issues.  I use my pc alot ... it's 24/7 running, and I want reliable SSD, that don't fail  I hope/think That 850 Pro is way to go

because of 150TBW+ lfespan.  (more than enough for all normal/Hardcor users .

I had problems .. like windows will freez, mouse does nothing (only moves , but can't click anything... the only thing that was working (instead of  restart) was to CTRL+Alt+DEL  and sigin out and sign in .... I ran, into this problem multiple times... so I made Format C to my M4.  Now it looks like that this issue is gone. for some time atleast. ... also googled that freezing problem... alot of M4 users with atlest 1 year old SSD have same problem...

sry if my english is bad... it-s not my everyday language
and greetings from ESTONIA
