Samsung EVO 250 and 500 SSD benchmarks real or fake

Go to solution Solved by Sakkura,

You're most likely seeing the effects of Samsung RAPID, which uses system memory as a cache. If you run larger benchmarks, performance will drop down to levels that make sense for a SATA3 SSD.

Edit: Or SATA2 for that matter.

OK, so few months back i got two Samsung evo ssds (250 and 500) for my laptop and desktop respectively  and did some benchmarks the result are pretty surprising and unusual. i just want to know if this is correct or just something am doing wrong thanks

Well, I think it is a displaying error. Your Notebook has an old Pentium and not even SATA III, so your speed is limited to 300 MB/s maximum in theory. Your 7 gigs read, or even the first screen, are impossible to even closely reach.

The laptop has single-channel DDR3-1066, which is capable of transfer speeds up to 8.5 GB/s.

The desktop has dual-channel DDR3-1600, which is capapable of transfer speeds up to 25.6 GB/s.

Yeah, but it still doesn't give realistic results, since that is not even the speed of the SATA port.

Samsung RAPID circumvents that limitation by using the system memory as a cache. So what you're seeing is data being written to and read from system memory at speeds beyond what the SSD could possibly achieve.
