EU regulators preparing guidelines for 'right to be forgotten' complaints

Ethnod

Ok so seems in light of the "Landmark" EU court case asserting the rights of Europeans "to be forgotten" off the internet there is an advisory group working on some guidelines which should be published in November of this year... My problem with all this is the terminology. Search engines are a way, a method of getting to information that already exists, removing certain search results does not mean you are "forgotten" from the internet just from someone using a search engine from finding the location of information they were not aware of. However, that information is already there and the minute someone new links, blogs, chats about any of that information it will be back on the "Internet" again.

I think its very misleading for people who know no better and should state as much, so should the journalists covering these stories.

I disagree. Removing someone from Google is a pretty effective way of making that person forgotten.

You are thinking of celebrities, politicians or controversial figures, yes they would be harder to forget even if they were removed from Google but this law isn't about that. This law is about ordinary citizens, the ones that no one would bother do a deep background search about. Removing them from Google can make a difference.

Nope, I am not thinking celebs or anything like that as they are in the public eye and that is different. I actually agree that it is effective but just not permanent and not forgotten. I feel it is just misleading as any none-tech article I have read on the subject does not touch on the subject of how it works and how new things will pop back up on searches.
