Traffic Light That Can Count & Regulate Pedestrians "SCOOT"

An Interesting tech news, If you're Living in the UK the technology is already being used in some of the places,

 

 

Now you No longer have to push through the crowded lane to get across the street quickly before the green man says No to your face(like everyone else) , London is releasing a trial system that can see pedestrians in 3D depth of field & can count how many pedestrians are waiting on the other side of the road.

 

 

The technology is called " Pedestrian SCOOT " (Split Cycle Offset Optimization Tool)

it is the first of its kind in the world and uses state-of-the-art video cameras to detect how many pedestrians are waiting at crossings, When the cameras count a critical mass of pedestrians, the technology transmits data that keeps the "walk" sign lit for longer to allow more people to cross the road.Similarly, when fewer people are waiting to cross the road, the traffic is given a longer set of green lights.

The SCOOT system already regulates London's traffic flows and has been credited with cutting delays by 12% in the capital. It is in use at 3,000 junctions in the British capital, with a further 1,500 earmarked for SCOOT upgrades by 2018.

 

The Device was constructed under "Technology Delivery Group at Transport for London" under the care of project leader Mark Cracknell.

 

 

"We have inductive loops in the road that detect vehicles, do clever analysis of the traffic patterns and then coordinate the junctions to try to make the progress through the city as smooth as possible."

The system is very valuable in places where the pedestrian traffic is variable as in Schools , Near Bus stops, Event Centers , There are technologies out there that can detect whether a pedestrian is waiting, but the technology we use actually quantifies and counts the number of people Mark said But the technology we use actually quantifies and counts the number of people.The stereoscopic camera allows us to get a sense of depth discount the puddles and the shadows & just get a picture of the people standing there

 

Despite this it's not all one-way traffic. Pedestrians that press the button on a set of lights and then change their minds and walk away are another challenge to the free flow of traffic.

what im concerned about is that you wont be able to cross a road without the police/someone else being able to know abot it if they wanted to

This sounds like pretty good smart technology. I'd love to see this implemented here in Australia.

i dont really care, since i dont and never will be afraid of the government/police, as i dont do anything to have to be tracked, so i still welcome this, but i do know some people have fear of that (probably too many films )

i dont because we have a normal police force here. we dont worry about everyone being an infiltrated terrorist (thats what is basically going on in the US right now with NSA, and that was going on in Yugoslavia some 30 years ago) we rather have the police help us and protect us

 

and our government is too busy milking the country of all the money it can give to even think about doing something worse than that

It's a slippery slope, especially if your government is already trying to milk you for money. All they have to do is claim "your an anti government activist!" then suddenly your in a work camp and they've seized your assets. Never think it cant happen, because that's usually when it starts to.

Fair enough, as long as you keep them on a short enough leash that they don't start arresting people for thought crime. A few senators have already tried to introduce legislation here in the US making it illegal to criticize any elected official, disguised as an "anti hate speech" bill.

People just can't get out of their annoying whiny self absorbed little causes (like the feminist movement, anti gay movement, pro gay movement, etc) to realize how badly they have been misled. There's a term for that, I can't remember it, where someone convinces themselves they have made the right decision to the point of delusion.

How on earth can you say that the democrats aren't left wing? They believe everyone should be given everything from government, that if your rich and successful it's because you've cheated/lied/stolen somewhere along the way and you don't deserve it etc. Just curious. They aren't blatantly socialist YET, but there are 1 or 2 who are outright socialist.

 

Hell they're going after the NFL's tax exempt status in an effort to pressure my favorite football team to change it's name because they found 1 or 2 people who find the name offensive, despite the name being made what it is in honor of someone.

I would carry with me a couple of lightweight shoe boxes with me that pretend to be other's people heads, that way whenever I have to cross streets the traffic lights will always assume there are people waiting and will change the lights to my favour. There has to be a way to exploit this!
