i5-4690k + Z97 Motherboard.

If you live near Microcenter, you can pick up both for under $300.

If not, you can get an i5-4690k for $209 shipped from Tigerdirect.com

Pair that with an MSI Z97 G-55 SLI Motherboard for $109 on Newegg.com

Agreed. Mostly.....   ;-)

I would pick up an ASUS mobo though.I love their motherboards. I had Z77 from ASRock, MSI and now ASUS. Best is definitely ASUS, FOR ME!!! But there has got to be a reason why Linus loves them so much as well. That doesn't mean that MSI and ASRock are bad, just ASUS is better in my opinion.

I agree that I prefer Asus, but you cannot argue with the price of the MSI.  Most Z87/97 motherboards that are SLI capable are starting at around $140, here you can get the same features for just $110.  The software that comes with Asus is really the best though.  Is it worth paying $30 more for? Only the end user can be the judge.

You should check Intel Xeon 1230v3 which is the same as Core i7 4770 without integrated GPU and frequency lowered by 200 MHz. But the best thing is that Xeon is cheaper.

My brother just got the 1231v3 and loves it. Awesome performance with his 290. Same performance (in BF4) as his "old" 2500k with a 4.4Ghz overclock.

FX-9590 and 990FX 8+2-phase motherboard

The Intel will perform better, but it is made by Intel, and you don't want that.
