what do i loose from not having a genuine copy of windows 7?

as title says. i switched motherboards so now i have to purchase another key but what i want to know is what do i loose? so far the only thing i have noticed is i don't have a desktop background anymore

You don't have to purchase another key. It can be transferred over (unless you need another copy of Windows.)

 

What do you lose? Any Microsoft support, and I think a wallpaper. That's it. If it is not Genuine, I think it might start pestering you about activation.

I know Microsoft has their whole call-in activation thing, did you try it?

Call microsoft and more than likely they will let you reuse the key. They know people upgrade their hardware and help them out.

Actually, sometimes, it will lock your computer until you activate it after 3 months or so. But I don't know with Windows 7. Because I only saw it on XP.

The only thing you loose is the wallpaper,but there are many ways around the whole not genuine thing. B)

Call microsoft as said, tell em your mobo died and you had to replace. Ta da.. They will fix your problem.. Or use a kms activator.. But ppl frown upon that around here lol

If you torrent it correctly, you wont lose anything but Microsoft support maybe. After you activate it correctly, everything is the same. Customize anything, backrounds, updates, etc

 

Or get it on G2A, download ISO on microsoft site for "genuine" copy but for only 25 bucks or so

Well as a last resort you could crack windows with removeWAT or winloader.
I wouldn't make much of a big deal about it if you own a copy of windows.

As others have said, give Microsoft a call, it takes 3 mins max. Tell the support person that you have upgraded you hardware (mobo) and that you only have 1 pc running with this purchase/copy of windows. They should give you a key to put in and allow the activation. Ive gone through the same experience.
