Beta Bios Updates: worth it?

N3rot0xin

So this may seem kind of obvious to some, but bear with me.. I'm really just wondering if beta BIOS updates are something one should jump on. I realize, of course, that whats actually being updated also matters. For example, I have a GA990FXA-UD3 board. Its flashed with the F2 (07/22/2013).  As of the 27th of last month (Aug) there is a new bios, F3h which is in beta. There isn't much listed on the website, except that the "CPU AGESA Code" has been updated. I don't even know what that is. And I'm not sure at the time of writing, before really looking into it, if there is anything else being done in the bios that may or may not help my system. So, again, I'm wondering if beta bioses are worth the fact that they are beta, and also what "AGESA Code" updates actually do. (All i know about them is that they control how the cpu, memory and hyper tranport link are initialized on system boot, or coreboot i think is what they call it, not sure what an update means for me)/

I am whatever I am.

everytime you flash the bios theres a chance you brick the board so unless you experience unstabilty or issues don,t attempt a flash.

:P If it ain't broke... don't fix it

Unless you're an engineer, then proceed to "fixing" it even more.

I've got a 2 year old Asus z77 board, never updated the bios because I've never really had the need and it's still going strong

Updating your BIOS is a good thing. i always check before doing a clean install.

While that's true, what I meant was if you've already got a system using components that work with the current bios revision and you aren't having any stability or compatibility issues with your computer, then I personally think it's just unnecessary risk.
