First Gaming Build - Need Advice

Hey this is my first time building a pc and I don't know whether the components I've chose are right. I have done loads of research to understand how to pick them but I just want to make sure I get it right. I want to play games like; CS, Battlefield, Call Of Duty, Payday 2, Fifa, Gta, Minecraft, Hearthstone etc. I was looking to spend around £500 but have gone over so If there is anything that is irrelevant to have then don't hesitate to say. If anyone could recommend a 1080p monitor that is cheap and maybe a good cheap keyboard and mouse just to get started that would be great. This is what I have gathered so far. Plus if there is any websites you can recommend where I can get the components cheaper. Thanks in advance.

I'd consider an AMD 280, 280x, or 285.

Do you really need an optical drive?

I was looking to go down the intel route but thanks anyway. The optical drive was mainly to install the os! It's not to much anyway. Thanks

Will the Pentium be able to play all the games on high? It seems too cheap! :P

Intel doesn't make GPU's... ;)

The performance is a lot better with the AMD cards. Almost double IIRC.

Unless there's a certain aspect of Nvidia you want, why take the performance hit?

Haha I thought it was the CPU :P I'm not convinced about Amd. They apparently run hot and are a cheap alternative. One of my friends recommended the Nvidia and lots of people backed him up!

I don't want to overclock cause I don't know to much about it so I would probably screw it up and cost myself more! Is there one that which would get me the same performance as that CPU for less?

nope not unless you want to go with an 760k and fm2+ which doesn't have much of an upgrade path

Overclocking isn't hard... it won't ruin your chip at all if you stay under 1.3 volts linus has videos on it and the safe zone would be like 4.2ghz

At this price point AMD wins by quite a wide margin.

Here's a comparison using BF4 since it's a pretty popular game.

bf4_1920_1080.gif

The 280x is ~10fps faster. Or, 20%. Not a small number by any means and basically on par with the GTX 770.

They don't run that hot. Stock cooler, sure, they're hotter. That's not what you'd be buying, and it's not like it's a furnace. The only people that continuously spout that are either Nvidia fanbois or just horribly uninformed individuals.

Motherboards that offer overclocking often have a very simple software solution for it.

For example on my Gigabyte board there's an application with three very large buttons. One's green (stock), one's yellow (slight overclock), the other is red (large overclock).

They're all extremely safe as you haven't really altered much.

The Sapphire version is 190. Yours is 170. It's a minimal increase for a 20% gain.
