Can I RAID 0 ADATA SX900 and SX910?

I currently own a SX900 512GB but is nearly full, only a 2xx mb left, i want to purchase a new one and setup RAID 0 with the two ssd and then RAID 1 to a 2TB HDD. I am using a Gigabyte Z97X-GAMING 5 MB. Is it possible?

You can RAID 0 the two SSDs, but RAID does not work in such a manner that you can RAID a RAID array to another single drive. And you know, if it were possible, the 2TB HDD would be made 1TB by the capacity of the two SSDs.

RAID isn't the most reliable thing, why do you want to use it?
If you do, I hope you have a RAID card instead of the subpar built in RAID on motherboards.

1st, you can only have one raid partition on teh z97

 

2nd, yes you can raid 0 a sx900 with another but it will erase everything you currently have on it. so back it up

 

3rd. raid 1 to a 2tb hdd... no just no

 

even if you could it would give you hdd speeds on your ssd

 

alternatively you could setup to have your 512 ssd cache your 2tb hdd

Because i want speed and capacity. But I've heard that raid 0 on ssd failure rate is high.

You likely won't even notice the speed difference in day to day operation, and if you get the next SSD up it generally gets at par or better performance than two lower level RAID0 drives.

All it adds is failure points, not to mention the on board RAID controllers really aren't that great.

If you add another drive...you get the capacity anyway. It just has a different letter associated with it.

RAID is so unreliable every file server on the planet uses it. :rolleyes:

So the OP plans on spending thousands of dollars on a high quality RAID card? That's why they're reliable...

The lowest cost quality RAID card is around $300. You think the built in RAID on a $150 motherboard can even compare?

The speed difference is negligible on an SSD.

You likely wouldn't even notice. So, it's kind of a useless, risk adding feature to try and implement.
