version 5 of 1Password will be free with an unlockable in-app purchase for 'Pro' options. This is version 4.5.3, as existing users before version 5, we will have the 'Pro' options for free? If yes someone screwed up royally (probably Apple)

That's in the next version that will be free when iOS releases. Somebody made the mistake and priced the full (pro) app as free before the new version. If their policy is to give all of their customers who bough the previous version the "Pro" in-app purchase for free, you'll probably get it automatically. All that is already in the OP though.

It worked! just updated to IOS8 and got pro by updating for free after buying for free on ios 7
