First time PC builder looking for some advice

tobiderfisch

Hi

As the title says I am new to building PCs and with the help of Redditors and other forums I put together a build for a gaming PC I plan on building.

My budget is around $1000-$1100 and this is what I came up with.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4430 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($179.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock B85 Pro4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($109.99 @ Micro Center)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 780 3GB DirectCU II Video Card  ($398.00 @ Newegg)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Case Fan: Cooler Master Megaflow 110.0 CFM 200mm  Fan  ($14.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1068.89
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Right now I am pretty satisfied with my build and right now I want to get the opinions of as many people as possible on this build so that I can make it as good as I can. If you have any comments or I could save a few bucks here and there please let me know.

Edit: I should have probably Specified this. I am not planning on overclocking or SLIing/Crossfiring on this build although I would like to leave the opportunity open for the future.

My build: CPU:  i5-4670K Mobo: ASRock Z87 Extreme4 RAM: Kingston Fury Red Series 16GB GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 970 STRIX Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D

Ditch the SSD on the short term and get a better motherboard and CPU. Buy the SSD later on. Also are you planning on going SLI/CF in the future?

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

This is much stronger. The R9 290X Powercolor PCS+ is a solid card and right now has a 15% off promo code. Well worth getting over the GTX 780. You can get the SSD just a tad later

Thanks for the reply. I should have probably Specified this. I am not planning on overclocking or SLIing/Crossfiring on this build although I would like to leave the opportunity open for the future. Also, I probably won't purchase the parts until November since I am planning on trying to save a few bucks on Cyber Monday. Also I am hoping that the new Nvidia cards are out by then so the 700 gen will be cheaper. That said, I was looking at the R9 290 (not the model you suggested) but I would like to go with team Nvidia unless the AMD one is blatantly better. I was just gonna go with whichever was cheaper at the time I buy my parts.

Edit: Also, is a CPU cooler necessary?

My build: CPU:  i5-4670K Mobo: ASRock Z87 Extreme4 RAM: Kingston Fury Red Series 16GB GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 970 STRIX Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D

Well the CPU cooler is only necessary if you plan on overclocking, which is what the 4670k allows you to do very easily. It's not a bad idea to get an aftermarket cooler however, but the stock cooler that comes with the 4670k still does OK. Also, the first motherboard you had listed looked fine as well, so that will save you another $10 or so.

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670k GPU: MSI RX 480 Gaming X 8G PSU: Corsair CX500M Motherboard: ASRock B85 PRO4 RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB SSD: Crucial M4 128GB HDD: WD Blue 1 TB

OS: Windows 10 Case: CM Storm Scout 2 Advanced

Your build seems very similar to mine (inc. SSD).

I built my first rig in Feb this year.

It's much easier than you may think, just ensure that you spend time checking that all connections are correct and you should be good to go :)

* I chose to go with a Samsung 840 Evo SSD drive and although you may chose not to use one, I recommend it for the speeds of many applications. Boot is fast, programs are fast and I'm happy. If your gaming though it mightn't be necessary but I do some video editing (etc) so it was perfect.

This build is much better

May I ask why?

Edit: Also I found out that I will no longer be needing the case since my friend will give me his so I can save $100 there.
