Need help for planning for a computer next year

I am planning on building a brand new computer next year, and I have watched a few of linus' videos and I have come up with a build.

As you may have noticed, I live in australia, and computer part prices here are expensive compared to american prices.

 

My budget is around $2500-3000, and I am probably going to change some of the parts to newer parts, because there will probably be new graphics cards/other stuff that will be released next year.


So do you think this build is good? Or should I change some of it?

I will do some 3D rendering (for school) and i will do a bunch of video editing.

I will also do a lot of gaming.

 

I also need 8 USB ports because i have alot of usb devices to plug into the computer, so thats why I went with this motherboard. I might do a little bit of overclocking too.

EDIT: I might use a corsair H100i instead of that noctua air cooler.

 

EDIT: I already have my monitor and I have all of my pheripherals with me (mouse, keyboard, etc).

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

 

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

I would wait 3 more days and get a 980 instead. Also that 1000W PSU is about 300W more than you need. Even if you were to do 980SLi some day, 850W would still be enough. Aesthetically speaking there are nicer CPU Air Coolers with slightly less performance. You might run into problems with only 16GB ram. I know ppl will flame me for this, but Rendering applications tend to use closer to 25GB if they can. Thus my recommendation is 32GB (might get tight with your budget though). Since you said you have a lot of USB devices I assume at least one of them is an External Hard Drive.

he does it for school. If school is High school, then yeah, 32 might be too much. If school is college, then he will likely use up the 16GB. All Adobe and many 3D applications benefit from CUDA cores, whereas AMD cards have no equivalent.

I prefer watercoolers. they look nicer imo especially with such a sexy mainboard (the X99 that is) and temps are slightly better. You'll have to see how you fit them in your case though. They are however also a bit more pricey. I have a H105 and I like it very much. But really you can't go wrong with any Corsair, Swiftech or even Coolermaster AIO. Some just have better performance to price ratio.

Honestly, If you are looking to get into content creation, the X99 or even a X79 chipset is going to pay dividends

 

more cores, and higher memory bandwidth will help video editing a lot.
