Debating whether to preorder SSB WiiU.

LaboonTheWhale

Hey guys

I have been debating if I want to preorder SSB for WiiU.

I know that preordering a game isnt always good since you actually don't know anything about the game until review copies are out but its SSB and I feel like you cant mess that up.

Would it be not-wise to preorder this game? Amazon has the bundle for the game, gamecube controller adapter (ripoff) and a SSB gamecube controller for $100.

Worth it? Dumb? I can't decide. I want your guys' opinions.

Preordering games is like premature ejaculation, it still feels good but waiting and getting that nut when you know it's right feels even better.

Not really, I just felt like saying that.

You're an interesting character....

If it worries you, in this case, I would say don't pre-order. I say this because all that extra stuff is available separately, so you can get it when you feel like it. The price may even drop. If it were Limited Edition, bundle exclusive stuff, I'd pre-order or buy shortly after launch.

Also, the public demo on 3DS is going to drop shortly. You can read the reviews or play it yourself to get a feel for it.

The only items worth pre-ordering are Special or Limited Editions. I've Pre-Orders Bayonetta 2 First Print Edition (Limited to 1530 copies), The Pokemon Alphas Sapphire Steelbook Edition (Available at GAME.co.uk but the figure seems to be Nintendo Store only). I HAVE Pre-ordered Smash Bros on the 3DS from Nintendo store (£10 more expensive than elsewhere) but it includes a T-shirt and sweatband.

The usual price rules don't apply to Nintendo games so I wouldn't worry about getting stung by the launch price. With a typical AAA game like Assassin's Creed you know that before the end of the year it'll be at ~25% off in a sale and within the year it'll be at ~90% off the original price. Doesn't happen like that with top-tier Nintendo games. If I go to EB Games Australia on the internet archive they were still selling Brawl for full retail right up until the Wii U launched. Say what you want about EB but even they slash the price of last years' Assassin's Creed or CoD. Doesn't happen with Nintendo games because they tend to remain relevant for longer. You're going to be paying full retail or at least in the ballpark of it no matter what.

That said I still probably wouldn't bother pre-ordering. Unless you particularly want a bundle or a limited edition then there's not a lot of point. Worst case scenario they actually do sell out and in that scenario I'd just go home and download a copy for around the same price. More likely they don't sell out and I just walk into the shops and grab a copy. The only time not pre-ordering has bit me was when there was that limited edition of Skyward Sword with the golden WiiMote. Local retailer only had a couple of copies for non-pre-orders and it sold pretty well so I had to drive down the hill and get a copy from another store who had a whole bunch in stock. Oh noes, the horror.

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing

Not only that but whichever store you pre-order at just gets free interest on the money you put down for the game.

It isn't worth pre-ordering unless you know it's gonna be limited in numbers.
