The right PSU for me

Sklo
Go to solution Solved by Archangel1994,

EVGA G2 850W. No competition really. You could do 750W version but that's a bit tight with an AMD CPU.

It's $96 after MIR. Get it while it still has the MIR :P

After my previous PSU died in my finals week I had to get a new PSU really quickly. Went to a local Techstore and asked for a PSU capable of running a single high tier GPU. He sold  me "650" no name PSU and promised it is future prove and could even handle a crossfire set up without a problem. Back then I had a rather low end GPU, but I planned to upgrade soon after I graduated. I bought myself a decent 280x card and hopped for some nice performance. Now I am struggling with random Blackouts during gaming sessions, which already cost me a number of competitive games.

After all the research I did, it is very likely the PSU is not delivering enough power on the +12v rail and therefor the PC is shutting down.

What I need is a PSU thats capable of running a dual 280x config with an AMD processor. The FX6300 I have now will bottleneck a crossfire setup and therefore I would need to upgrade my CPU aswell, if the time comes.

I think that it will require about 750watts and cosiar/evga PSu are about 100$, so I guess that is my budged.

Buy my screwed up Mushkin Joule 1000 watt psu from me.  $113

PS: I will never take a risk again when buying a psu.  In fact since I bought that I have not taken a risk on an iffy psu again.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Are semi modular PSUs cheaper?

Depends on the PSU but they can be yes. The difference between fully and semi is that the motherboard and CPU connectors are not removeable so the difference is minimal. You cannot get better for less than $100 than the EVGA G2 850W though (atm).

Especially considering that once you register the product, the warranty for that PSU is 10 years.
