A 500 dollar PC is kind of crap, I dunno. Console bashing is popular on this forum is popular, but dirt cheap PCs, I'd rather just console if its for gaming since exclusives.

It would depend, if the OP wanted a computer with the entire package(like having peripherals included) then a xbox one would be better because the performance on the pc isn't that great. If the op just want the desktop then a pc would be better because you don't have to spend money on peripherals and you would spend your money on better pc parts.

If we were talking the PS4, I'd definitely agree. Including peripherals, a PS4 will outperform a $500 PC. I'm sure OP has at least SOME kind of PC in his house, or even a laptop, so at least he has access to basic PC function in the first place.

But as we're talking the Xbone, a $500 PC will likely out perform it.

Feel free to also consider a PS4, OP. Has some great exclusives coming out, and is also the most powerful console right now for console-only games like Destiny.

Whichever platform you have the most friends on.  If you have a bunch of friends on XBL then you might want to continue with that because you won't get all of them to convert.  If you like the console exclusives and must have them, go for it.  Otherwise save up some more and get a PC, especially if you want to get nice peripherals.

When you look at something like this video

It seems silly to recommend a $500 PC which would have to be playing on very low settings, i would say just go with the console.

You're also an idiot. That price is very nice for what you get. Plus, it looks like the plebbox that OP wants (xbox).

not really at 550$, your getting a mobile cpu, a cruddy gpu, and 4gb of ram with no upgrade ability where as a 600$ pc will hand it its ass anyday

even a 500$ pc will beat it

yeah just wondering if getting a 500 dollar desktop is better than getting an xbox one, (just the computer)

If you want the exclusives go with xbox, but if you want to be able to play some games, get cheaper (on average) games, and the pc exclusives than pc, maybe try one of Austin Evans'  budget systems, they are great starting points, and relatively easy to build. as for if you can notice a difference when gaming with the same game, i wouldn't be able to say seeing as how Ii don't have the xbone, and my pc plays all the games i have at maxed out (with v-sync, and anti-aliasing) at 1080p with an average fps of 60+, it is single monitor, and the hardest game to run is metro 2033 it is the only one that is lower than 60 with 45 avg, still maxed out completely.

Nothing to see here, move along

It could go either way. With $500, you won't be able to do much, assuming you want to build your own. Prebuilt ones will be a bit better, but again, not as powerful for heavy gaming. I would say Xbox One.

What games do you plan on playing on the PC?

Even with a budget system, and this is excluding EVERYTHING else you need for a computer except what's in the case, the gaming experience won't be as great as everyone would like to make it out to be. If you have friends on a console, go with a console. If you can save up longer for a PC that's really worth buying, then get the PC.

This does exceed your $500 budget but it's more future proof and customizable.

The OS in this case would be Ubuntu.

You could go for a lower end CPU and a better GPU.

I also would have maybe gone AMD but Intel is good too.

That isn't true, building a PC is always going to be better than a pre-built, whether the budget is $150, $500, or $5000.

No.

You pay for the brand if you go prebuilt. Also you will not be able to really customise your computer going that direction.

I would go for a PC over a xbox one. Mainly because you can do more on a PC than xbox one.

PC: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Gigabyte X570 UD Corsair Vengence 32gb 3200MHZ Gigabyte RTX 2070 Intel 512gb boot / Seagate 2tb spinner Windows 10 Corsair 4000D black

It depends on what sort of games you're into and what sort of hardware you have lying around. If you'd have to build it from scratch and you're really into Microsoft's exclusives then XBOne will win out. Same goes for the PS4. However if you have a machine that's a few years old even if all you can reuse is the KB, Mouse, Monitor, Case, PSU and HDD? Then a 'new' PC will be cheaper and perform better. Especially if you're going purely for multiplatform games like Assassin's Creed and Batman.

But if money isn't the issue or if you want to still spend $500 overall even with a bucketload of re-used components? PC will smash it.

Ok, not what i meant by prebuilt. haha. What i meant was, yes your custom build will be better, but for $500 you won't be able to get everything. well at least to high standards. sometimes, SOMETIMES, a prebuilt will give you what you cant have. At lower prices is all

In the words of (I think) Slick.

Also, my vote is for PC with Athlon X4 760k and a 750ti.

That's pretty much my reasoning. Also, a $500 computer isn't exactly..great..

Yes but it allows for future expansion and more money saved over time.

And so GabeN has told us to march forthith unto the Land of Holy welding our swords of mice, shields of keyboards, and helmets of Oculus Rifts where we shall reclaim it-which is rightfully ours-from the PUNY Console Peasants from whom armed only with mere controllers we shall decimate in all forms of battle and we shall dominate even in their most ridiculous tradition and infatuation of CoD.
