I think that my ssd is dead, what should i do?

mosin40

Hi LTT community

Today my sister's laptop ssd was not recognized by the bios.

Before that it was normal, but i wanted to make a back up and connect it via usb to my laptop

After that i tried reconecting the ssd to the laptop and i didn't boot, the ssd was placed in an HDD/SDD caddy

The model of the ssd is an ADATA Premier Pro SP9000 128GB, the problem is that i don't have the box were it came in  :(

I just don't know what to do, please help me...  :(

1) Warranty

2) Buy a new one

I don't have money to buy one, the warranty expires on 2016, but i don't have the box to RMA it

Did you backup the ssd? B)

Some data is backed up, but not 100% of it....

Whoa! Before going drastic, have you tried it on another computer? Hell, I'd put everything back into the laptop and try to boot again. I will wager that it's the USB 3.0 that's giving you problems.

You were wise to try to backup the drive but not the way that you've done it. Next time try it with an already working external drive. The nice thing about ssd's is that it doesn't take much to backup.

Well crap, so much for that guess. The best guess at the moment is double check the cable connections both the Sata and power. There's no moving parts so there's not much to tell you whether it's on or not. Did you plug and unplug with the power on?

Do you need the original box?  Did you not register the SSD?  I know for some products you don't need original boxing.

I seriously thought the title said "I think that my son is dead, what should i do?"

I was sitting here, at my desk, holding my hands over my face in deep, deep confusion.

There is probably the code right on the SSD, where you can register it.

It was in the box the ssd doesn't show the code

Honestly, I would still contact adata and see what they can do for you.  You would be surprised at the customer service of some companys!  I have no personal experience with adata, so I dont know what they are like.

Did you back up the data onto another drive like a external hard drive? IF you did and want the info back then just restore the data from the backup onto a new [or extra drive if you have another one just sitting around] and use that tell you can get a new ssd. Of corse if the drive will work with the laptop. B)

The biggest problem with ssd's is when they go, they're gone. No recovery. I echo EthanMCL's advice and throw at least an email in Adata's direction. Don't go into too much detail but tell them it stopped working, you tried it in another machine and nothing. They might come through.

Yes, but the problem in the laptop is that when installing the HDD with some of the info, it doesn't turn on... the sata port is kinda bad, also the hdd/ssd caddy doesn't support the hdd
