How is gaming on a 2560x1080 monitor?

LaboonTheWhale

Hey all

I saw that Crossover now has 29" 2560x1080p monitors at around $300 and was wondering how gaming on those kind of ultra wide monitors were.

I was thinking about getting it but I would like first opinions about this resolution gaming.

I have a 2560x1440 monitor but my GPU struggles at times playing on max.

Heres a link to one of them.

Thanks!

Not all games support that resolution but when they do, man is the experience good!

If you have a 1440p monitor, set it to 2560x1080 and see what it looks like :) (that's why you don't really need a separate monitor)

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Pretty fantastic and you wouldn't regret getting it. Especially for First person games. I cannot go back to 16:9 for first person games.

Download flawless widescreen. There is not a single game I know of that will not easily fix the games that don't support it. All you do is open the tiny app then launch the game and it fixes it automatically.

How Do I go about that? The standard screen resolution slider in windows doesnt really give me the ability to change the screen pixel size. Also Wouldn't it be kinda different if I was playing on a 27" 2560x1080 monitor as opposed to a 29" 2560x1440 ultra wide monitor.

Would you think it would be foolish to get rid of my 1440p monitor and get this as a primary monitor?

If you gpu is having trouble keeping up than I would suppose it wouldn't be foolish. If you have the money you can go to a best buy and buy the lg29um65. It's the same panel and if you don't like it you can take it back. But that is 400. They also sell the 25 inch model for 300. Either way you can basically test drive it.

unless you have a big monitor you won't get the same effect. You will have black bars on the top and bottom.

I have an r9 290 but it struggles at times. I was thinking about getting another r9 290 but that is also a costly option since I have a custom loop so a GPU+waterblock is easily $400+

I wouldn't go 2560x1080... odds are PPI is a tad low, and it's not 21:9 I repeat it is not 21:9 it's actually a slightly different ratio... use this http://isthisretina.com/ look for yourself ppi under 100, aspect ratio 64:27 (which makes it 21.33333333333333333:9 and trust me computers don't round nicely) I'd just go 1440p or 1600p (16:10) or 2160p if you want more pixels or go 1440p(21:9)  cause 2560x1080 is really just 1440p minus some vertical pixels to mee makes no sense...Also support in games is sketchy

um... the ppi is around 95. Which isn't terrible. I had that panel. I ended up trading it for a smaller 25" model where the ppi is 110 I believe. The way my desk is setup the smaller screen works better for me. I don't think you have any clue at all about aspect ratio because nothing is being rounded. It is in fact 21.33333:9 but they just don't market it like that because it would be stupid. A resolution is a grid of pixels horizontal and vertical. I repeat, nothing is being rounded. Of course 1440p will be sharper but it won't beat the experience of ultra wide. Also movies won't have black bars because movies are filmed at 21.333333333:9

Games are not made in 21.333333333333333333333333333333333333333333:9 they're made in 16:9 and the rounding is called interpolation it's not a fun thing, and trust me most content is 16:9  (Youtube for example or as said games) There's a reason 21:9 isn't standard it's not standard movies are usually 16:9 as well and stretched; Rarely are things filmed in 21.333:9  it's starting to happen STARTING and it's not gonna be universal for quite a long time...  TV broadcasts are usually 16:9 US Cinema standard is 16:9 IMAX is 12.87:9 somethings are still 4:3 Academy standard is 12.375:9... Even Linus has said in videoes on "21:9" it's not common when it is found its awesome but its still rare or on the WAN show when they talked about the "5k" TV (which was "21:9" 2160p) and he said he knows of NOTHING that films that and said your more likely to find 4320p  footage cropped 21:9 is far from common and is gonna continue to be that way for a while...

It would certainly be silly to get rid of the 1440p monitor, why throw it away? There is a difference in size between the two, but honestly maybe you're better off like this. To change the resolution, if you have an nvidia gpu, go to nvidia control panel and change it from there to "custom resolution". For amd, there is a very good guide in the guides sub-section.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

The lack of vertical screen estate sucks. It's pretty pointless if you ask me. Why not get a 34" 3440x1440 monitor instead?
