Monitor that reduces eyestrain

LarsReviews

I want to get this monitor, when the sales begin in December. Dell U2414 http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-u2414h/pd

Most of my time I spend in front of monitors, even in school. Is there anything I can watch out for that reduces eyestrain? TN, IPS, LED Backlight, higher refresh rates?

Intel 4790k | Asus Z97 Maximus VII Impact | Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16 GB 1866Mhz | Asus Strix GTX 980 | CoolerMaster G550 |Samsung Evo 250GB | Synology DS215j (NAS) | Logitech G502 |

I already have flux and it seems to work pretty good. Why a TN panel?

Oh that's just what I have... I know that several different variations of IPS are in the works, if any of them are capable 120hz and at least 4ms I'd purchase one, but for now I'm not willing to invest in any of the sketchy ass Korean Panels.

In my personal experience, lowering the brightness down helps a lot. I stare at computer screens all day and usually when my eyes start straining I lower the brightness a bit, but it also helps to use "dark" or "night" themes for websites and whatnot. I don't like using F.lux due to the change in color which ruins the experience of gaming some.

I use a Dell U2312HM as my primary monitor and I'm loving it, I used to get eye strain from it but every since I started using darker themes and lowered the brightness the strain went away. I highly recommend Dell monitors due to how they design their monitors with great specifications and their build quality is pretty nice. I want to get three more for a 3+1 setup  :D

Been on LightBoost for a little while now, with no eye strain to speak of. I stand and stretch or exercise every hour or so, not sure if that's enough to cope with strain, but it seems to be working for me so far.

Eye strain can be caused by many factors.

Many are due to the PWM controlled backlight, where it flickers on and off really fast to control the brightness, and not stay steady at a brightness level (using a dimmer circuit instead of a PWM. COsts more and consumes more power. Usually mobile devices and cheaper monitors uses PWM to control the back light). A trick to note if that is the problem, is simply set your monitor brightness at 100%. If despite being brighter which might be an issue, you feel that it's better in some way, then it could be because of that. Purchasing a monitor with an actual dimming circuit (meaning no flicker) will solve this problem.

Other possibilities:

-> Colors. Blue can be a bit harsh to some people, and white LED outputs a blu'ish white, adding blue to all colors.

-> Dehydration. It is known that dehydration can cause red eye and difficulty to see.

-> Lack of breaks for your eyes. by nature we don't like things that don't move. Try and stay steady for a while, you'll want to move. You can theories that your eyes want to focus on other things. Taking frequent breaks by looking at different distances is known to help, and is in fact recommended by all professionals.

-> On rare cases, disease or medication or health related problem. Seek an optometrist for professional and accurate advice. Me or anyone talking here is worthless. Maybe something to mention to your optimistic on your next check up for some professional tips on what you can do.

I believe the correct word your seeking is "optometrist". He can seek an optimist if he likes, but I doubt that they'll be able help him with his eyes. :D

I'm actually planning on getting two of these » http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=28308&zenid=4a9fc77eff78a3048af4547fe2d32915 « with my planned build this year. One of the deciding factors was that it doesn't use PWM backlighting. This means it dramatically reduces eyestrain. Plus it has a 'Low Blue Light Mode' that really helps with eyestrain as well. It reduces blue light up to 70% which is supposed to help with eye strain a lot.

I know that particular monitor is out of your price range, but BenQ do offer other monitors of theirs with the same eye strain reducing technology. So it's worth taking a look at some of their monitors. :)

Oh.....you're blaming the spell check? Nice one :D! I personally blame predictive text. Sometimes it thinks it knows what you're gonna say and can make you like you're incredibly rude, stupid or just a plain idiot. It's sometimes has come up with completely random things, and I'm like, what the HECK?! :D
