GPU Power Connector

thewafflemaster

I have a question about a graphics card power connector:

I see some of the connectors have 2 8-pins connectors or 1 8-pin and 1 6-pin connector (like the one below) and i was wondering if you need to have all slots have a cable plugged into it.

You need to have both plugged in? I don't quite understand.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Yes. You have to connect both of the power cables.

Most PSUs have 8 pins that are also 6 pin.

Yes you do.

Only cards just such as the MSI R9 290X Lightning have "optional" power. It has a 6-pin,8-pin,8-pin, the 6-pin is optional for "overclocking".

If the manual or source tells you it's optional, then it's optional. If it's not stated, you need to plug them all in.

You need to plug an 8-pin and 6-pin. I dare you try to put only one connector there. :P

Wanna know what happens? It won't turn on, the one without the connector will have a red light instead of the green one.
