r9 280 or r9 285

Assassin1911
Go to solution Solved by helping,

285 usually edges out slightly ahead, but the 280 is typically a good chunk cheaper and has lower VRAM.

The 285 has a few small benefits which I can't remember to list, one of them being greater efficiency.

That said, the 280 would still be a better card if you would ever consider crossfire in the future.

Mantle also seems to benefit the 280 more, bringing it near and in some cases better performance than the 285.

Whichever one is cheaper, they are as powerful as each other (roundabout)

they both benchmark very similarly, not really much performance difference between them.

basically, the 285 has lower TDP, newer features (freesync support, trueaudio support),  but has 1 gig less vram
