AMD Firepro

sup guys

i was wondering

why does everyone use quadro cards

i have never ever seen a firepro being mentioned when it comes to suggesting  parts for aa workstation

ive only seen firepro cards in macs and that pretty much it

I have noticed this too. Every single engineering PC I have ever dealt with has had a quadro, never a firepro. So one day I asked my friendly IT guy what was up with that.

He said market share. When Nvidia started selling more cards than AMD (professionally) software programmers started spending more and more time catering to the strengths of the Quadro's over the firepro's. Since then the effect has compounded to an almost complete saturation of the professional market with Quadros.

Written from my work PC supported by a Quadro K4000.

IMO, the Quadro cards tend to look better (at least compared to the Firepro's I've seen).

because people used nvidia for so long and they know cuda's capabilities so they prefer to use what they already know and pay more than something completely new that and most of the 3dmax plugins support CUDA waay before than OpenCL

Most programs support CUDA over Open GL (even though Open GL is more efficient in certain tasks). There is nothing wrong with Fire Pro cards. Also larger companies and datacenter/supercomputers prefere the Nvidia over AMD because they have more performance per watt.

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

It's supposed that with raw power a Fire Pro W9100 it's better than the Quadro K6000, but damn drivers and optimization.

CUDA is widely used in professional stuff, like Adobe and that serious things.

It's better to look at your needs, and see if the apps you use support OpenGL. Also the W9100 it's a double precision unlocked 290x, and it's good at gaming, I would get it, you can game and render!
