My 770M in my Alienware 18 is showing at 64MBs, help!

TechnoGarrett

Not sure what to do here, I checked on CPU-Z to look up some info on my CPU and my main GPU is showing at 64MBs and 405MHz.

Advice? Should I contact Dell?

If I'm not mistaken those laptops with both integrated and dedicated gpus work so that the integrated gpu does most the work UNTIL there is a heavy load, then the dedicated card kicks in. That's the way my old dell laptop with my gt550m did. So it's normal. It does it to save power because if the dedicated gpu ran all the time your battery life would suck.

when Nvidia Optimus kicks in (for non-gaming purposes), the Nvidia GPU is almost completely turned off and the system will be using Intel's integrated graphics.

Is there any way to completely 100% disabled Intel graphics? I don't want them on lol.

Nope. I searched forever trying to find a way and I never could with my laptop. You could check the bios but I doubt there is anything there, you're just stuck with it. It annoyed the crap out of me with my old laptop.

Well, at least I will be upgrading to a desktop soon.

And what you're saying is it has one 770m at full load but when there is a need it bumps the other from 64 to 3GB?

Yes sir. It only does it because it's a laptop and dell wants you to save battery. You can change your power options to performance and that will help use the 770m more, but it will still go idle when not under a load the integrated gpu cant handle.

Yes sir.

Ok. I'll play some games later to see if I can get it to ramp up the second one. Thanks for the help.

Even if you could (I'm not aware if you can) I wouldn't do it. It will keep your system warmer than it needs to be during non-heavy tasks. It's a laptop man, haha.

I don't use it as a laptop. I have it elevated on a Cooler Master laptop cooler. Can't remember the last time I moved it.
