GTX 780 Folding Thread

Hello Folders !

This thread is for anyone who is currently folding on GTX 780 GPU(s) and wants to share/read tips, overclocks, folding stats and anything else 780 folding related

I will kick start the thread off with my current folding/gaming rig and stats:

Z87-G45 MSI GAMING Motherboad

CX600M PSU

MSI TWIN FROZR 780 (lite edition ( cba to pay more for a overclock that i could do myself  ))

Intel i5 4670K @ 4.2ghz

Fractal Design R4 (I think)

12GB Corsiar Vengance

780 is currently running at:

1215 Mhz core clock

3250 Mhz Mem clock

1.212V core voltage

i am currently getting 2 mins 20 secs TPF on my GPU

my PPD is at 83k (without QRB as i havent been folding for long) on my GPU on FAHcore_17

just recently i hit 195.5k PPD on a FAHCore_18 WU, altough i dont think i have QRB yet as i have only completed 1 WU

i jumped to BOINC as i reached 25mio folding points but my stats were:

No OC (cause i had failing WUs) and it boosted to 1032mhz.

no idea of the TPF but i got ~130k ppd.

pretty awesome card to fold with!

Other System specs in the sig btw. Also a review of my 780 :)

NOTE: i had an oc in the past which was pretty low (boost to 1150mhz) but it was stable. Now, after 6-10months of 24/7 folding it isnt stable anymore, only stock clocks :D

i agree with you on that one !

i have been overclocking for a year now with my trusty 780, sad to hear that yours isn't doing as well as it used to, and i heard such great things about the DCII

yeah i completely lost the silicon lottery :D

Even when you overvolt it to the max i couldnt get over 1150 boost. But the card is still beast. Want to sell it and get a gtx 970 though cause i heard it will be very short and i will build a Mitx rig soon. Also when you look at what ppd the gtx750ti pulls then daaaaaayuuuum son! 970 will be a folding beast ^^

i think i got the jackpot on mine  ;)

i can go up to 1250MHz and sometimes higher if i REALLY push it , but thats when i go past the voltage limit and make my own bios specifically for it.

yeah im gunna wait for the 900 series as well , or maybe the 800 series depending on how my wallet is feeling  :P

800 series will be 900 series :D they are skipping 800 cause of reasons... Otherwise there wouldnt be romours so deep that i'd now the pcb size of the 970 :D

how odd , why didn't they just call it the 800 series for convenience ?

your post makes a lot more sense now  :D

Folding is actually always 97-99% with my card and that's normal. What card do you have and what ppd do you get?

Im getting around 160k ppd consistently with my 780 :)

Usage will fluctuate between 92-98% when folding at full.  Love the 780 though, the card is a BEAST!

1254 is pretty good and i have never heard of a cuda mod for folding, only for mining.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've got a 780Ti, same difference right?

Asus gryphon z87 mATX

4770k @ 3.5GHz (turbo boost disabled)

780Ti @ 1006Mhz

To keep things cool I've got:

4 noctua NF-S12B as intakes (2x front, 1x side, 1x bottom) running at 800~ RPM

2 noctua industrial 120mm as exhaust (1x top, 1x rear) running at 1300~ RPM

For my CPU a NH-C12P running full bore with the included 140mm noctua fan

My GPU has a reference design cooler which I keep around at 80% fan speed

This is all in a Fractal Define Mini chassis. Temps on the CPU hover around 50C and the GPU stays at a toast 75C with a sub-20C ambient.

On the good days I can get upwards of 240k PPD. Usage on the GPU stays around ~98% and with 2 threads disabled on the CPU the usage is around ~80%.

Very nice...

Thanks. It's nice little rig. I'm thinking of watercooling in the near future. It'd be nice to bring those GPU temps and noise levels down.
