Yeah the i5 should be fine for gaming

Keep in mind, anything below an i7 47xx is dual core with hyper threading.

For casual gaming....like TF2 type gaming, either should be fine.

i5 and i7 are different on laptops than they are on desktops... Anyways you should say:

1. the most hardcore game you'll be playing on your laptop as a point of reference for everyone

2. what are the i5 and i7's in those laptop models?

i dont see any diference but win 8 and processor (or am i wrong).

The i5 is dual core, the i7 is quad core.

Whats the most demanding game you plan on playing?

Metro Last Light is very demanding...IIRC only Crysis 3 bests it. And GTA V will an unoptimized piece of crap...

Neither will run particularly well.

I'd go with the i7 as it is quad core and the i5 is dual core, it will perform noticeably better in gaming.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

For gaming go i5 , i7 for multi threading if you plan to do more demanding stuff like maybe programming or something.  Strictly games I would go with i5.
