Is Haswell-E worth it?

I am planning to build a $1400-$1500 PC that I will use to play games (lots of gaming), web browsing, programming, video editing and some other basic stuff and I was wondering, should I get Haswell-E with DDR4 RAM? I want it to last for a year or two (or maybe even three) without upgrading. What do you think?

Worth is a relative term.

With your budget, I wouldn't do it.

What kind of video editing are you doing? Extensive or the odd Youtube video here and there?

You will be spending tons of money on that DDR4 and on the mobo. Getting an "old" 6 core on the 2011 socket or even a quadcore i7 seems like a better idea to me, since you can spend the rest of your money on a better GPU. Are there any specific features on X99 that you absolutely need?

X99 isn't for your needs, you should save your money for other aspects of the system and stick with Z97.

10/10 wou... ah fuck it. :P

At 1,5K I'd say to get a nice i7-4790K + good gpu instead of X99. You'll have a better gaming experience since motherboards and DDR4 are so pricey right now.

That being said, from what you do, I'd say to get a mainstream i7 and OC it

Usually, if you ask yourself if "is X99 worth it?", it isn't  ;)

Intel Core i7-5820k @ 4,6Ghz; Asus X99 Deluxe; GSkill Ripjaws 4 (4x4) 2400Mhz; MSi GTX 980 Reference @ 1.4Ghz; CM V700; Phanteks Enthoo Luxe; Windows 8.1 Pro

You'll blow more than half your budget for sure just on your CPU. Either increase your budget by a substantial amount, or jump down to the Z97 platform. Z97 is great for gaming and basic video editing, there ain't nothing wrong with it.

There's a reason the 'e' at the end of 'Haswell-E' stands for enthusiast.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

an 4790K will serve you totaly fine.

i think X99 wil going to be a bit to costy.

the 4790K is a decent cpu for rendering aswell.

And for gaming a 4790K will be better then a 5820K
