GTX 780Ti @1440p

NoodleAssassin

Hey people, title says it all.

I was looking at EVGA's GTX 780Ti ACX Superclocked, as it has dropped to about $620 USD.

How will this card perform at 1440p 144Hz?

Should I wait for the 980 and 970, go single 980 or 970 two way sli, or do I get two GTX 770s in sli?

AGHHH SO MANY CHOICES

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated

I  don't think even a 780 ti is enough for most games to go above 60 fps @ 1440p.... if you're doing that I would wait for the next gen card/ 780 ti price cut.

Just look at benchmarks when they come out... i'm sure someone will do 1440p benching.

780 Ti > 980 > 780

If power and heat aren't big issues that you'll need Maxwell, you could possibly wait till 780 prices drop. Even then though, the 780 Ti likely still won't be worth the money over the 780

For 1440P you could also concider something like a Sapphire 290 triX or Vapor X.

Very decent card, not far behind a 780Ti at 1440P.

In Cysis3 (one of the most gpu demending games) it even beats the 780Ti.

And its allot cheaper then a 780.

just my opinnion :D

If you want to play modern games at 1440p, near max settings and at 100+FPS with that budget you probably want to look towards 2 R9 290s. You could wait for the 900 series, but a single 980 won't have enough power for your demands and 2 of them would be way more expensive.

I'd go 290, you can usually get 2 for just a slight amount more than a single 780Ti.

Actually the latest leaked benchmarks show it above the 780Ti.

No, the leaked benchmarks show the 980 between the 780 and 780ti.

It's specs also back it up, as it has less powerful hardware than the 780ti.

Also, many sources claim that the 980 is replacing the 780, not the 780ti, so it should not outperform the 780ti.

Pretty much this.

Keep in mind the 980 will be cheaper than the 780ti. Eventually Nvidia will release a 980ti once AMD catches up, that's just how it works every time.

If the 980 is less than $500 then I might get one. Otherwise the 780ti for $590 will be my next GPU.

I just hate that they skipped 800. I get why they did it but it just makes my cards feel older than they are once the 900 series releases.

What? You are aware that the other 980s are overclocked, right? The base (100%) is less than the 780ti.

As is the higher tier 780Ti. The stock clock is 928. The lowest 980 is 1127.

Even if it is overclocked, it's still comparing apples to apples; you're aware that they're both overclocked, right?

This is such a funny graph, biassed to Nvidia lol

Overclocked 980 Sli, against a reference 290 crossfire @ stock

And the overclocked 980 sli, gets allmost beaten by stock reference 947mhz 290 crossfire.

Personally If I Were You I Would Wait Until The 900 Series Comes Out Nd Go For 780 Sli Or Kingpin 780 ti If You Dont Mind Paying The Money But I Dont Recommend An AMD Card (Excluded VaporX Cards) Because They Will Get Really Hot ON 1440P And They Already Use A Lot Of Wattage.

Not true at all. My 290 hovers around 70°C max while gaming. Regarding the power consumption, a 290 needs ~280W of power while a 780ti needs ~260W. The difference is not massive and shouldn't really concern you if you buy high end parts.

No one was arguing.

At 1080p 6gb makes little to no difference. Even at 1600p the gains are minimal over a 3gb card.

This conclusion was made based on 3gb vs 6gb R9 280x's, not sure if it's the same for 780's but I can only assume it is.

Haha, I did notice that. They might just not have had non reference cards to test. I was more interested in Nvidia vs Nvidia numbers anyway, I wouldn't compare the 900 series to the 200 series R9's, I'd wait for the 300 series R9's to come out.

it says 947 mhz, so this means it where reference 290´s.

Or XFX 290 Double dissipations, cause these are also running at 947Mhz.

al other non reference 290´s all run on 1Ghz + core clock.

And yeah im not even going to talk about the new AMD R9-390X Bermuda XTX :D

....... That is on an empty server and there's not a whole lot going on. It WILL dip below 60fps on a 64 player server with tons of explosions and "levolution" going on. Also, BF4 is not the most demanding game out there.

It Would Occasionally Dip Below 60 FPS But A 290 Wont Keep A Consistent 60 FPS You Would Either Need Crossfire Or A 290X Or 295. BTW Im Not An AMD Hater I Just Speak From Experience If He Is On A Budget He Should Go 290X But I Personally Like 780 Ti Better That's All lol
