The problem with those HDMI converter boxes is that they add latency and the good ones cost in the order of $100s. You could get some higher quality cables, Component for eg, for the Gamecube but the problem there is that while the cheaper connectors for the GC were the same ones used from the SNES the Component ones used a different connector. Worse yet because there was limited interest at the time for a console that wasn't a huge success they are pretty rare. A quick google shows some guys selling them for upto ~$300. Not a good option.

So IMO I'd say the best, and maybe even cheapest, option is to look for an earlier version of the Wii that has backwards compatibility. BTW, it was full hardware backwards compatibility. It's cables are cheap because they're still compatible with the Wii U and there's a chance the seller will include Component cables it in the deal given that they'll have no need for them without a Wii. A quick search and I've found a couple of people in my area selling Wiis with a handful of games for ~$100. Sometimes much less. Plus as an added bonus you'll be able to play games like Super Mario Galaxy.

I too recommend component through a Wii. If you're looking for one, the backwards compatible Wii's have vertical logos (perpendicular to the disc slot).

Or, you can get HDMI output by running the Dolphin emulator. Some titles might require a beefier graphics card.

Then you'll probably just have to put up with Composite. But if you really want GBA support on your TV? Well get this as a separate thing: http://www.retron5.com/

Wii is the best way to play original GC games on a modern TV, that system is the best way to play pretty much everything else.
