upgrading ps4 hard drive

jmcphe01

How many of you have upgraded the hard drive to a 1 tb from the 500gb and is a hybrid drive worth getting.

If you need the extra space, you might as well get a hybrid drive while you are at it. But if 500gb is enough, it's not worth it.

I don't own a ps4 (pcmasterrace) but it's probably not a good idea to upgrade the hdd for storage. After all, it takes a very, VERY big game library to fill 500gb and other media can be accessed through usb if I recall correctly. Hybrid drives are a bit of a pain to setup and honestly I'm not even sure the ps4 supports it. For performance, it makes sense to get a (small otherwise that money should just have went into a pc) ssd at the cost of storage, otherwise keep what you have.

It's an easy process, I did my mate's one.

The only thing is that I would grossly recommend going for an SSD if you can afford it.

Compatible with Windows 95

I saw some benchmarks shortly after launch, hybrid drives didn't make too much of a difference from what I remember. An SSD made sense and really helped with the loading times, but it's also expensive. If you just need more storage go for a 1TB drive IMO. And yes, it is really really easy and you're not voiding your warranty by upgrading the HDD.

I upgraded and it was easy. With the size of games getting bigger and bigger I think it is a good idea. From the benchmarks I looked at during the launch period there wasn't an improvement in performance that justified the cost of am ssd or hybrid drive

PS4 games are fucking huge.. You can get through most of the 500 GB drive with a handful of games.

No it doesn't, especially if games are around 40-50GB each...

The PS4 supports hybrid drives but the OP should check out this link to get a lot of information:

Like the article mentions, perhaps games at the moment aren't really relying on the HDD for streaming that much at the moment. Would be interesting to see if that would change over the course of the gen when higher quality assets can't all be kept in ram, if thats what happening at the moment.
